Maidstone: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice to Maidstone and the surrounding area at least once a week so there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers to ensure the coving arrives in good condition, our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.
All our coving is hand made we use the same techniques and materials that were used in the Victorian period, Plaster cornice is moulded in 8 foot (2.4m) lengths and all ceiling roses are individually cast, if you would like to see more here is a video of one of our ceiling roses being made. The whole process is done entirely by hand, we keep large stocks of finished coving so that we can meet even the biggest orders, in a matter of days rather than weeks.
Maidstone's long history and regional importance has led to the area having a wide range of desirable properties of all ages. Decorative plaster mouldings only came into widespread use in the early Victorian period when cornice and roses were able to be pre fabricated off site, in exactly the same way we do it today, prior to that all cornice was run in-situ.
Here are a few suggestions where you might start your search for different ages of property, these are only intended as a guide and the most important thing is to choose something you like, the Victorians were using designs from the Georgian period and Victorian designs were used well into the Edwardian period.
MPC067 is a design from the early 1800’s that is simple, stylish and does not look out of place in any property built since, it is available in three sizes for all ceiling heights. If you have a Victorian or Edwardian property, swan neck cornice is a classic Victorian design that was used into the Edwardian period LPC030 is one of our most popular sizes and suitable for those with ceilings of average and above average height. For more modern properties LPC015 and MPC046 are two cornices that look good anywhere, they are not tied to any particular period or style and are both popular with houses built from the 1920’s onwards. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will look good with any of these, if you would prefer something more ornate MPR061 is a popular choice.
Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, these pages also have hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an idea of how a specific design would actually look in your own home. It is surprising just how different the same design can look depending on how the room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should be cheaper too. Experienced cornice fitters will not have difficulties with walls that are not straight, corners that are not right angles, coving with a pattern on it, or ceilings that are not level. All these things are just part of the job especially on older houses, as a result they can put up more coving in a day and what they do fit, is fitted to a higher standard.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in touch, if you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please call our customer services team they will be happy to talk to you.
