Winchester: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Winchester at least once a week, we have a warehouse in Arundel and our vans are always passing through the area. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure everything arrives in good condition, our drivers will also check that coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where space can be short and damage can occur.
We make all our plaster cornice and all our ceiling roses by hand, using the same techniques and materials as were used in Victorian times, many of our designs also date back to the Victorian period making them once fitted, indistinguishable from the original. We make our plaster cornice in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths each one individually moulded, plaster ceiling roses are also made individually by hand. We keep large stocks of finished coving and ceiling roses, to make sure we can meet even the largest orders in a couple of days
A cathedral city and once the capital of England, Winchester grew from a Roman town to a prosperous regional centre and market town by the early nineteenth century, During the Victorian period Winchester's population doubled to 52,000 and has more than doubled since. As a result Winchester has a wealth of quality Victorian, Edwardian and later houses. All of these Victorian and Edwardian houses would originally have had decorative plaster mouldings, that is to say plaster cornice, plaster ceiling roses, corbels and perhaps panel mouldings, fortunately most of this has survived and where it has not, we have worked on many of the restorations. Always popular for Victorian and Edwardian cornice renovations is the swan neck profile, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall.
Swan neck cornice was widely used in the Victorian and Edwardian periods, although the name may be unfamiliar, the cornice will be instantly recognisable. It was used across all types and sizes of property, with larger and more more detailed versions being used as rooms increased in size. LPC073 is one of our larger sizes and suitable for the higher ceilings and larger rooms of Victorian detached and larger semi detached houses. MPC065 is a smaller size ideal for today's ceiling heights and is often used in smaller older houses and in more modern properties where the customer wants to create a period feel to a room, LPC030 will do for everything in between. If you also need a ceiling rose, a plain spun rose such as LPR074 will go well with any Victorian cornice and for something more ornate we have LPR060 a finely detailed original Victorian rose featuring acanthus leaves.
We don't just make coving for older houses, we produce a full range covering all ages and types of house. Designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that will add elegance to any room with ceilings of average and above height, although not tied to any particular period it is frequently chosen for more recently built properties and very often specified for new builds. MPC046 has just as much style and comes in a smaller size for rooms with lower ceilings. Art Deco designs such as MPC028, a three step cornice full of 1930s style are also very popular.
Samples of all our cornices are available off the individual product pages, these pages also feature hundreds of pictures of our ceiling roses and cornices in real life situations. All these photographs have been sent in by our customers, the same cornice or ceiling rose can look completely different depending on how a room has been decorated and furnished and these photographs are a great way to get inspiration. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would recommend you use experienced tradesmen to install your coving, the end result will be far better and it should also be cheaper. An experienced tradesman will not have any difficulties with walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level, not to mention corners that are not right angles, bay windows or matching a pattern. All these things are normal parts of the job especially when working on older houses where few things are ever level or straight.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen some of whom we have worked with for years, and can put you in contact if required. If you've got any other questions or would like any further help or advice please give our customer services team a call, they are always happy to talk.
