Tunbridge Wells: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice to Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding area at least once a week. We use our own vans and drivers to deliver coving to ensure it arrives in good condition, our drivers will check coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready to be used, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.
We make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand, we use the same techniques and materials used in Victorian times, plaster cornice is made in 8 foot (2.4 meter) lengths, each length is individually moulded as are all our ceiling roses. We keep large stocks of finished plaster cornice and ceiling roses, so we can meet even the biggest of orders, in a matter of days rather than weeks.
Tunbridge Wells has a wealth of fine houses dating back to the Regency period when it was a fashionable spa town. Mineral springs were originally discovered in 1606 by Lord North and the town grew and grew as it became fashionable with royalty, Queen Victoria spent much time there in her childhood. The arrival of the railway in 1845 led to further building as the desirability of the area increased as a commuter town.
All these properties would have originally have had a full set of plaster mouldings, plaster cornice, plaster ceiling roses, along with corbels, panel mouldings and matching timber skirting boards and architraves. Fortunately most of these features have survived, where they have not we have worked on many of the restorations. One of the more popular cornices for Victorian renovations has always been the swan neck profile, so called because it extends further across the ceiling, than it does down the wall. Swan neck cornice was used widely in the Victorian period and through into the Edwardian era, its distinctive profile will be recognisable to anyone familiar with older houses. We have a range of swan neck cornices, for larger houses where the ceilings are high LPC073 is a regular choice and for ceilings that are above average and of average height LPC030 and MPC065 have the right proportions respectively, for something more ornate LPC019 is a finely detailed Victorian cornice, that is sure to impress. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a good choice with any of these cornices, or for something more ornate LPR060 is a quality Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.
We don't just make coving for older houses we have a range covering all ages and types of property, designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with a reasonable ceiling height, usually chosen for houses built from the 1920s onwards it is a popular choice for new builds. If you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 is just as stylish but in a smaller size, and an ogee cornice such as MPC039 will match the skirting boards and architraves of most houses built in the last 200 years. If you also need to replace your timber moulding we have Victorian skirting boards SB009 and matching architrave ARC002.
Samples of all our designs are available off the individual product pages, where you will also see hundreds of pictures of our cornice and ceiling roses in real life settings, these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an impression of how a particular design would actually look in your own home. It is surprising just how different the same cornice can look depending on the way in which the room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will they do a better job it should also be cheaper. They will not have problems with walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level, corners that are not right angles and coving with a pattern on it, all things that are just part of the job, especially when working on older houses. As a result they can fit more coving in a day and the coving they fit, will be fitted to a higher standard.
Congratulations to our customer in Tunbridge wells on their truly exquisite home office transformation using our dentil plaster coving MPC075 and our Acanthus Satellite plaster ceiling rose MPR038. What a fantastic result.
