This is our smallest dentil cornice with a drop of 75mm or 3 inches. It features an ogee curve with a dentil moulding below. Dentil cornices can be seen carved in stone on the temples of ancient Greece and Rome. They became popular in Europe during the Georgian period, when classical architecture and features were the height of fashion.

Dentil plaster cornices have continued in use from Georgian times to the present day. Though it is fair to say we sell more dentil cornice for the restoration of period properties, it is still frequently chosen for modern houses, and even new builds. The name, of course, coming from the resemblance to teeth.

Such a small dentil cornice is only really chosen when there's not room for a larger cornice. Often as can be seen from the pictures opposite, where ceilings have been lowered and there is not now enough room for a more substantial cornice between the ceiling and the window architraves.

If you are not so constrained by space, we have larger dentil cornices MPC061, being perhaps the most popular.

All our plaster coving is made by hand. Each length is individually moulded using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I ORDER?

If you measure your plaster coving needs and order an exact amount, one wall could end up being finished in small off-cuts. To avoid this, we recommend you order 15% extra to ensure longer lengths are used wherever possible, as this will create a better finish. This coving comes in 2.4m lengths.
