Southampton: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving to the Southampton area at least once a week, we use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to ensure our coving arrives in good condition. Our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded sites where damage can occur.

All our plaster cornice and ceiling roses are made by hand, we still use the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, coving is made in 2.4 meter (8 foot) lengths, each one along with all our ceiling roses is individually moulded. The whole process is done entirely by hand. We keep large amounts of finished cornice and ceiling roses in stock, so that we are able to meet even the largest orders, in a matter of days not weeks.

Southampton has been a major British port since the medieval period, and grew rapidly in the nineteenth century, with many new houses being built, there was much building in the post war years. Southampton has many fine Victorian properties all of which would originally have had plaster cornice and ceiling roses, fortunately most of this has survived however where it has not, we have worked on many of the restorations. Always popular for these projects has been swan neck coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall.

Swan neck cornice was used widely in Victorian times right through into the Edwardian period, its distinctive profile will be recognisable to anyone familiar with older houses. We have a number of different sizes at one end LPC017 is a large swan neck that is suitable for the well above average ceiling heights of larger Victorian properties, and then MPC065 and SPC070 are suitable for rooms with average and lower than average ceiling heights respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will go well with all of these cornices, if you would prefer something more ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make coving for older houses, we have a full range of designs for all ages and types of property, designs such as LPC015 that look good anywhere with an above average ceiling height, MPC046 which has an equal amount of style in a smaller size. Samples of all our cornices are available off the individual product pages, here you will also see hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, these are the best way to get an idea of how a particular design would look, if it was fitted in your own house. It's surprising to see just how different the same cornice can look depending on the style in which the room has been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the finish be better, it should also be cheaper. Experienced fitters will not be caused any difficulties by walls that are not straight, coving that has a pattern, corners that are not right angles or ceilings that are not level. These are all just part of the job, particularly when working on older houses. As a result they are able to put more coving up in a day and the coving they fit will be fitted to a higher standard.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact. If you have any other questions or would like any other information or advice please give our customer service team a call they will be happy to speak to you.

Check out this simple yet regal renovation in Southampton, this customer first enquired about a restoration project where she wanted to restore the room's original cornice in places where it had been damaged, however after researching she found it was much cheaper and better value to opt for a complete re-fit.

She also loved the profile of our ever so popular Swan Neck Plaster Coving LPC017 which is featured here. This classic and iconic cornice design signals a Victorian era where intricate coving was a symbol of wealth, its elegant 'swan neck' finish effortlessly refines this room and is versatile enough to style for either a period or modern ambience. The intricate line details beautifully create subtle shadows and the finishing touch that creates a flawless finish.

If you are looking to restore some of your home's original features a complete refit might be the option for you with the best value for money. We offer an extensive handmade range to suit any style and interior.
