Carlisle: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to Carlisle at least once a week, there is not a long wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure our coving arrives in good condition. Our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.
We make all our plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses by hand. We still use the same materials and techniques that were used in the Victorian period. Plaster cornice is made in 8 foot (2.4 meter) lengths. Each plaster ceiling rose is individually moulded as is each length of cornice, a genuinely hand made product.
With its history dating back to the Roman period, Carlisle grew rapidly in the nineteenth century after the arrival of the railway, which led to new industries and an increased demand for housing. Today Carlisle has its own university and is the administrative center of Cumbria. We have worked with many customers who are renovating some of these Victorian properties, all of which would have originally had, a full set of plaster mouldings and matching timber mouldings. Namely, plaster cornice, plaster ceiling roses, panel mouldings, timber architraves and skirting boards.
One of the most popular cornices for these restorations has consistently been swan neck coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. Swan neck coving was used extensively in Victorian times and remained popular well into the Edwardian period. Its classic profile will be instantly recognisable to anybody familiar with older houses. We make a number of different swan neck cornices, LPC017 is suitable for the highest of Victorian ceilings, with LPC030 and MPC065 ideal for average Victorian ceiling heights, A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a good choice for all of them or for something more ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.
We also have a range of period timber mouldings to compliment our cornices, for example SB009 and ARC002 are a large Victorian skirting board and matching architrave which would compliment one of our larger cornices such as LPC027 or LPC018.
We don't just make plaster coving for older properties we have a range covering all ages and styles of houses. LPC015 for instance is a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above ceiling heights, it is particularly popular for houses built from the 1920s onwards and is frequently chosen for new builds. If your ceilings are lower MPC046 has just as much style in a smaller size. Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get a true impression of how a particular cornice would actually look in your own home. It is surprising how different the same cornice can look depending on the style in which a room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper. They will not have problems with walls that are not straight, corners that are not right angles, ceilings that are not level or coving with a pattern on it. All these things are just normal parts of the job especially with older houses. We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in touch.
If you have any other questions or would like any help or advice, please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
