A Luton Kitchen Elevated with Victorian Swan Neck Coving

A Luton Kitchen Elevated with Victorian Swan Neck Coving

Location: Luton, Bedfordshire.

This customer wanted to transform her kitchen and dining area by introducing some Victorian charisma by installing our ever so popular Swan Neck Plaster Coving MPC065. Let's take a look at how this customer effortlessly elevated her home.

Kitchens in new-build homes are often designed for efficiency and modern living, sometimes they can feel flat, unfinished and characterless, without architectural depth and structure even the most expensive kitchen fits can lack thought and refinement. The project showcased here proves that our plaster coving is a simple yet effective way to elevate a new-build kitchen without compromising modern style.

The Project: Soften harsh ceiling lines with a classic coving design to create an intentional and polished finish.

1. What was the biggest challenge in choosing a style, and how did you overcome it?

“We used the same swan neck plaster coving in the living room so it continued the same style throughout the house.”

Our Swan Neck Plaster Coving is the perfect choice if you are wanting to create a consistent finish throughout your home as we offer this iconic design in various sizes. The MPC065 is perfect for rooms with average ceilings such as those in new homes. If you live in a period property with higher ceilings consider our Swan Neck Plaster Coving LPC030 which offers the same silhouette only bigger, and for rooms with lower ceilings or awkward box rooms such as en suites or walk-in wardrobes our SPC070 completes the family.

2. How well do the plaster mouldings integrate with the rest of your interior?

“We were unsure whether the coving would be too much for a modern kitchen area but it made it feel older and more classic. I’m pleased we went ahead with the installation or The kitchen would have felt separate in style from the rest of the house.”

Coving installation is the easiest way to elevate any home and achieve a finished aesthetic, we have a range of designs available to create a seamless transition from wall to ceiling no matter your styling preference, from sleek, traditional or ornate.

3. Did coving help with the proportions or architectural balance of the room?

“Yes, I was concerned it would shrink the rooms but it actually did the opposite! The kitchen feels more open and wider as a result.”

Coving is great wait to frame any room, you can even make ceilings appear higher or lower depending on what style or size you choose, the use of paint can also enhance your style choices and even help create an illusion, for example painting the wall and coving will make your ceilings appear higher or opting to colour drench your space will make your ceilings appear lower and create a cosier ambience.

4. What inspired your design choices—period homes, Pinterest, magazines?

“Home Instagram accounts were an influence. I love Victorian homes and also country looking kitchens with mixed wooden textures and baskets for that lived- in feel of a functioning space. I like to mix traditional features with modern fixtures.”

It’s interesting to see just how different a particular design can look based on how the room has been decorated and furnished, browsing the individual product pages will help you discover your own personal style

5. How would you describe the difference between the room before and after Installation?

“So much warmer! The kitchen felt very clinical before. Now it feels warm and inviting and is a great space to cook in. I want to add more shelves and layer up the space more but will build this over time.”

While respecting the contemporary nature of the new-build kitchen, the final result is that the kitchen now feels considered and complete, a subtle upgrade with significant impact. Whether you are a homeowner or developer adding plaster coving is the easiest way to either personalise or add value to your home, although the kitchen is not truly finished the architectural structure and features feel complete.
