Saltburn-by-the-Sea: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Roses

We deliver plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to Saltburn and the surrounding area usually once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure our products arrive in good condition, our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use. This is especially important on crowded building sites where space can be short and damage can occur after delivery.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by and using the same methods and materials that they used in Victorian times, a period which many of our designs date back to. Plaster cornice is moulded in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths each one individually made, our ceiling roses are also all made individually by hand. We keep large stocks of finished cornice and ceiling roses, so that we are able to meet even the largest orders in a matter of days. If you do decide to place an order, please remember  we sell coving by the meter, not by the length, just enter the number of meters you need, and we will do the rest, thank you.

Saltburn has a wealth of fine properties from the Victorian period when it developed into a fashionable seaside resort, all of these houses would have originally of had a full set of decorative plaster mouldings, that is to say plaster cornice, ceiling roses corbels and panel mouldings, along with matching timber skirting boards and architraves. Fortunately most of this plasterwork has survived though where it has not, we have worked on many of the renovations. We have many original Victorian designs, and with our cornice being made in exactly the same way as cornice was made when the houses were first built, once it is fitted it can not be told apart from the original period features.

One design is consistently the most popular for these Victorian cornice restorations,  'swan neck cornice’, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, it is classic design that will be instantly recognisable to anybody familiar with Victorian and Edwardian houses. The Victorian used swan neck cornice across all types of properties and would just use a larger and more detailed swan neck for larger rooms with higher ceilings. We have a range of sizes LPC017 being one of the larger ones, suitable for the higher ceilings of detached and semi detached Victorian houses. MPC065 is a smaller size suited to average height ceilings and is often used in later properties to help create a period atmosphere.

For something more ornate perhaps for some of Saltburns grander houses LPC019 is a large detailed cornice that would have been used in entrance halls and reception rooms where it was intended to make the maximum impression upon guests. If you also need a ceiling rose, a plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will go well with any Victorian cornice or for something more ornate LPR060 is a finely detailed Victorian ceiling rose featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make plaster coving for older properties we have a complete range covering all ages and types of property. Designs such as LPC015 , a cornice not tied to any particular period or style that will add elegance to any room with average and above ceiling heights, particularly popular for more modern houses, or perhaps MPC028 a classic three step Art Deco cornice that oozes 1930s style.

Samples of all or plaster cornice are available off the individual product pages, these pages feature hundreds of pictures of our coving and ceiling roses in real life situations, the photographs all sent in by our customers are a great way to get some inspiration and to see how a particular design could look in your own home. Depending on the style in which a room has been decorated and furnished it is surprising just how different the same cornice or ceiling rose can look. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper, they will not have problems with walls that are not straight or ceilings that are not level, bay windows or corners that are not right angles. All these things are just part of the job, especially when working on older houses where few things are ever straight or level. We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required.

If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please give our customer services team a call. They have years of experience between them and will be happy to talk to you.
