Paisley: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to Paisley and the surrounding area once a week or so, which means there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries, because our products are fragile and there is no courier company who can deliver them safely at anything like a reasonable price, in busy periods this can mean our vans get full so please order as early as possible. Our drivers will also check that the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where space can be short and damage can occur after delivery.

We still make all our coving by hand using the same methods and materials that were used in Victorian times, coving is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths each one individually moulded, every one of our ceiling roses is also individually made. We keep large quantities of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock so that we are able to meet even the largest orders in a couple of days. Please remember if you are ordering coving it is sold by the meter not by the length, please enter the number of meters required and we will work the rest out.

Paisley became a major industrial center in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, famous for producing hand loomed silk and cotton shawls, and later the largest thread manufacturers in the world had their factories in Paisley. The Paisley design still famous to this day was originally from these shawls.

Paisley's population grew from just over thirty thousand in 1800 to one hundred thousand in 1900, as more and more workers were required for the factories and all the supporting services. This wealth generated by these industries financed the construction of many fine public buildings along with huge amounts of new housing for the growing population. Today Paisley has many fine Victorian and Edwardian residences all of which would have originally had a full set of decorative plaster mouldings, that is plaster cornice , ceiling roses and perhaps corbels and panel mouldings, along with matching timber architraves and skirting boards. Fortunately most of this has survived and where it has not, we have worked on many of the renovations.

One style always popular for the Victorian and Edwardian cornice restorations is swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. Swan neck coving was used widely during the nineteenth century with different sizes of essentially the same design being used depending on the height of the ceiling and the size of the room, the style was used across all types of properties.

We have a number of different sizes of swan neck cornice LPC017 is one of the larger sizes and suitable for the high ceilings of detached and larger semi detached Victorian houses. MPC065 a smaller size is often used in bedrooms where ceilings are not as high and in more modern houses with their lower ceilings to create a welcoming feel to a room, for everything in between LPC030 is an intermediate size. For something more ornate LPC019 is an elaborate Victorian cornice perfectly matched by LPR060 an ornate ceiling rose featuring a typical Victorian design of acanthus leaves.

If you also need to replace timber mouldings we have a range of original Victorian designs made of high quality slow grown pine that are difficult to find these days SB009 and ARC002 are a matching nineteenth century skirting board and architrave.

We don’t just make plaster coving for older houses we have a complete range covering all ages and types of property. Cornices such as LPC015 a stylish design that will add elegance to any room, it is not tied to any particular style or period and looks its best in rooms with average height ceilings and above. If you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 is just as effective with smaller proportions. A plain spun ceiling rose such as MPR073 is a good choice with any of these cornices.

Samples of all our designs are available off the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of pictures of our coving and ceiling roses in real life settings, all of these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an impression of how a particular design would look in your own home. It is hard to believe sometimes just how different the same cornice or ceiling rose can look in different rooms depending on how they have been styled and decorated. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper, they will not have any difficulties with walls that are not straight ceilings that are not level, patterned cornice or corners that are not right angles. These are all normal expected parts of the job especially when working on older houses, where often few things are level or straight. We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required.

If you have any other questions or would like more information and advice our customer services team have years of experience between them, please give them a call they are always happy to help.
