Newport: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We aim to deliver plaster cornice to the Newport area at least once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order, we use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to ensure coving arrives in good condition, our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use. This is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where space is short and damage can occur.

We make all our plaster coving and ceiling roses by hand using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times. Plaster cornice comes in 8 foot (2 meter) lengths each of which is individually moulded as are our ceiling roses, we keep large amounts of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock, allowing us to meet even the biggest orders in a matter of days rather than weeks.

Newport grew rapidly in the nineteenth century as the coal and steel industries thrived, and many houses were built to accommodate the ever growing numbers of workers. All these Victorian houses would have originally had plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses. Fortunately most of this has survived and where it has not we have worked on many of the restorations.

Always popular for these renovation projects has been swan neck coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. It is a classic Victorian design that continued to be used well into the Edwardian period, its distinctive profile will be recognisable to anyone familiar with older houses. We have a number of different swan neck cornices LPC017 is one of the larger ones and sized for rooms with the higher than average ceilings, typical of Victorian houses, for those with lower ceiling heights or for upstairs rooms MPC065 is a smaller version. LPC072 is another very stylish plain Victorian cornice ideal for rooms with a good ceiling height. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a good choice to complement any of these cornices, if you would prefer something more ornate LPR060 is a quality Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make plaster coving for older houses, we have a full range to suit all ages and types of property. LPC015 for example is a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with a reasonably good ceiling height, for those with lower ceilings MPC046 is always worth considering. Samples of all our coving can be ordered off the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, these photographs have been sent in by our customers, they are the best way to get an idea of how a particular cornice would look if fitted in your own home. It is always surprising how different the same cornice can look depending on the style in which the room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would recommend you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving not only will the end result be better, it should also be cheaper. Experienced fitters will not have problems with ceilings that are not level, corners that are not right angles, cornice with a pattern on it, and walls that are not straight, all these things are just part of the job especially with older houses. This means they can put more coving up in a day, and the coving they fit is finished to a higher standard.

We have contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in touch, if you have any other questions or would like any other advice please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
