Doncaster: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving to the Doncaster area at least once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order, we use our own vans and drivers to make sure our coving arrives in good condition. Our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy building sites where fragile products can get damaged.

We make all our plaster coving by hand, coving is individually moulded into 8 foot (2.4m) lengths and all our ceiling roses are individually cast, we use the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, the whole process is completed entirely by hand, if you would like to know more, here is a video of one of our ceiling roses being made.

Doncaster grew rapidly in the nineteenth century with the industrial and railway boom, many houses were built in the Victorian period to house the growing numbers of workers. All these houses would have originally had decorative plasterwork, fortunately most of the plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses have survived, where they have not, we have worked on many of the restorations. One of the more popular choices for these projects has been swan neck coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, it is a classic Victorian design that was used well into the Edwardian period, it will be recognisable to anybody familiar with older houses.

LPC017 is one of our larger swan neck cornices and suitable for rooms with above average ceiling heights, we have smaller sizes such as MPC065 which is proportioned for rooms with ceilings of an average height, and should your ceilings be quite low or you have little room between the window architrave and the ceiling, as often happens when ceilings have been lowered, SPC070 has a very small drop compared with its projection. All of these designs go well with a plain spun ceiling rose such as MPR073 or if you are looking for something more ornate LPR060 is a Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make coving for older houses, we have everything from Georgian to the present day, LPC015 is a design that looks good anywhere with ceilings of average height and above and is most often chosen for houses built from the 1920s onwards, MPC046 is a similarly versatile cornice that has smaller proportions and will add just as much style for those with lower ceilings. Samples of all our designs can be ordered off the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life situations, these photographs have been sent in by our customers. They are the best way to get an idea of how a particular design would look in your own home. It is always surprising just how different the same design can look depending on the way in which a room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to fit your coving, not only with the end result be better it should also be cheaper. They will not have problems with ceilings that are not level or walls that are not straight, coving with a pattern on it or corners that are not right angles, all these things are just part of the job especially with older houses. Experienced fitters will get more coving up in a day, and the coving they fit will be fitted to a higher standard.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in touch, if you have any questions or would like any further information, please call our customer services team, they will be happy to talk to you.
