Ayr: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Ayr and the surrounding area usually once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure everything is delivered safely, and the vans do fill up at busy times of the year so please give us as much notice as possible when placing an order.
We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times. Many of our designs date back to Victorian times, making them indistinguishable from the originals once fitted. We make our plaster coving in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths each one individually cast, our ceiling roses are also all individually made by hand. We keep large amounts of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock allowing us to meet even the largest order in a couple of days. We sell coving by the meter so please enter the number of meters you require, not the number or meters and we will do the rest.
Ayr was created a Royal Burgh in 1205 and still retains a well preserved mediaeval street pattern by the seventeenth century, it had become the most important port on the west coast of Scotland. During the nineteenth century the population began to grow rapidly, the railway arrived in 1840 and Ayr became a fashionable Victorian seaside resort. Its population grew, from around seven thousand in 1800 to over thirty thousand one hundred years later.
This new wealth funded the construction of many fine public buildings such as the town hall built in 1832 along with much high quality private housing for the growing population of Victorian Ayr. All of these Victorian and Edwardian properties would have originally had a full set of decorative plaster mouldings, that is to say, plaster cornice, plaster ceiling roses and perhaps corbels and panel mouldings. Fortunately most of these period mouldings have survived, where they have not we have worked on many of the renovations, with genuine Victorian cornice designs made by hand in exactly the same way as the originals, it is possible to perfectly recreate the Victorian interior.
Always popular for these Victorian cornice restorations is the swan neck design, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. Swan neck cornice was widely used across all sizes and types of Victorian house, the larger the house and therefore the higher the ceilings and the bigger the rooms, they would just use a bigger slightly more ornate size. One of our larger swan neck cornices is LPC017 its ideal for the high ceilings of detached and lager semi detached Victorian and Edwardian houses, LPC030 and MPC065 will suit above average and average height ceilings respectively, A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a good choice with any Victorian cornice or for something more ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.
We don't only make plaster cornice for older houses, we have a full range covering all ages and types of property. Designs like LPC015 a stylish cornice that is not tied to any specific period, that will add elegance to any room with average and above average ceiling heights, it is particularly popular with modern and new build properties, while MPC046 will add just as much style to rooms with lower ceilings, MPC028 is a classic three step Art Deco cornice full of 1930s style.
Samples of all our cornice are available off the individual product pages, these pages also feature hundreds of pictures of our coving and ceiling roses in real life situations, all these photographs have been sent in by our customers, they are the best way to see what a particular cornice or ceiling rose would actually look like in your own home. Depending on the style in which rooms have been decorated and furnished the same cornice or ceiling rose looks completely different, for example, Victorian cornices in contemporary rooms look stunning. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your cornice, the end result will be better and it should also be cheaper, they will not have difficulties caused by walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level, cornice with a pattern on it or corners that are not right angles. Few things are ever level or straight especially when working on older properties, all these things are just part of the job and to be expected, and should not cause any difficulties.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required. If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please give our customer service team a call, they have a wealth of experience between them and are always happy to talk to customers.
