Collection: Victorian Plaster Coving

Decorative plaster work became widespread in the Victorian period, prior to which it had been the preserve of only the very wealthy.

Improvements in manufacturing techniques allowed for the mass production of lengths of cornice off-site in workshops. Which were then transported ready-made to the vast number of new houses that were built by the Victorians as the economy boomed.

Lengths of plaster cornice could now be made in workshops using moulds mounted on benches, rather than applying liquid plaster by hand to the ceiling. Where it was then moulded to the desired profile, a slower and far more expensive technique.

All our plaster cornice is still made by hand, using the same techniques as were used by the Victorians.

More about our Victorian Plaster Coving & Cornice

Our Victorian plaster cornice collection reflects the huge range and style of properties that were built by the Victorians. Perhaps the most popular is the Swan neck profile, which was used from terraces to the grandest detached villas, and everything in between. For larger rooms with higher ceilings, the larger the cornice that was used, with more elements also being added to the profile. The underlying Swan Neck design, however, remained the same.

We have a range of cornice sizes, styles, and designs to cover every type of Victorian property, with matching ceiling roses, timber architraves, and skirting boards.

Along with a range of tools and installation materials, we also have some helpful instructional videos giving tips on cornice fitting.

We're also able to recommend experienced professional fitters in most parts of the country, should you do not have your own tradesmen.

Delivery only takes a few days to most of the country. It is only in remote areas that it may take longer. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries, so we can be certain our products arrive in perfect condition.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can I have delivery?

We use our own vans and drivers to deliver coving. Our products are fragile and need to be handled carefully. Using our own transport ensures your coving arrives in good condition and customers are kept up to date with progress on the day of delivery. We deliver to the vast majority of the UK within five working days, often sooner. If you live in an isolated area, deliveries will be less frequent than somewhere like the centre of London, where we have multiple vans every day. If you have an urgent delivery requirement, please call our customer services team on 0333 043 1471, who will be able to tell you our latest delivery schedules. Alternatively, you can check our nationwide UK coving delivery index for typical delivery times to your area.

How is your coving priced?

The price quoted is per metre and includes VAT. Please note the price is not per length: just enter the number of metres you need and we will work it out to the nearest length.

Can you recommend a fitter?

Yes, we have good links with professional cornice fitters throughout the country and are able to recommend tradesmen in most areas. Please call 0333 043 1471 for details.

Do you sell matching ceiling roses?

Yes, we have a range of Victorian plaster ceiling roses from the plain to the highly ornate. We also have a range of original Victorian timber skirting boards and architraves, which are increasingly difficult to find these days.
