Background:
Annie and her husband, who go by the handle @the_edwardian_renovation on Instagram, set out to make their hallway a chic yet welcoming area. Their goal was to make their Edwardian entrance more aesthetically pleasing with the addition of an arch and corbels.
The Challenge:
The couple wanted to elevate their hallway further (they had already installed coving) with intricate Victorian corbels to enhance the space’s atmosphere. The challenge was to seamlessly integrate the corbels into the plaster coving and arch while ensuring a polished, professional finish.

The Project Plan:
To achieve their desired look, Annie and her husband chose Victorian Entrance Hall coving (LPC019) from the Plaster Ceiling Rose website. This is a large, highly decorative Victorian cornice featuring Acanthus leaves, modillions, Egg and Dart and a Dentil course.
They also wanted to incorporated Victorian Decorative Plaster Corbel Medium PC011 to enhance the space’s grandeur further.
The installation involved:
• Fixing the corbels securely to the walls and ceiling using adhesive and fasteners.
• Don’t forget the importance of filling any gaps or screw holes for that flawless finish. Sanding and filling the corbels can truly enhance their appearance to seamlessly blend with the surrounding decor.
Before & After:
Before the project, the hallway lacked warmth and architectural detail. By adding intricate coving and corbels, the space was completely transformed. The once plain hallway now exudes elegance.

Despite the challenges, Annie and her husband successfully combined coving and corbels to create a hallway that is both striking and inviting.
The leafy scroll under a stepped capping has just the right hint of classicism that makes it ideal in a formal or a Gothic setting. Corbels are suitable for use under a lintels, shelves, or could be used as a pair to frame an internal doorway.
