We have three sizes of this original Georgian plaster cornice design. This, with a drop of 100mm or 4 inches, is the smallest and is generally used for rooms with average or below-average ceiling heights. This may be the upper floors of period buildings where ceiling heights are lower, or perhaps where ceilings have been over-boarded and lowered, leaving insufficient room for a larger cornice between the new ceiling height and the window architrave.
The style of the cornice comes from the stone mouldings of Greek and Roman temples. Classical architectural features such as these, were the height of fashion in the Georgian period and through into Victorian and Edwardian times staying in use through to the present day.
The ogee curve featured in the moulding has also an element of most skirting boards and architraves used in the last 250 years, allowing the cornice to blend in perfectly.
Our two other sizes of this Regency plaster moulding are MPC067 for average height ceilings and LPC027, suitable for higher than average ceilings. This allows the same cornice design to be used throughout a house, where the ceiling heights may vary on different floors.
This plaster cornice is entirely handmade. Each length is moulded individually, using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times.

If you measure your plaster coving needs and order an exact amount, one wall could end up being finished in small off-cuts. To avoid this, we recommend you order 15% extra to ensure longer lengths are used wherever possible, as this will create a better finish. This coving comes in 2.4m lengths.
