London Swan Neck Coving 150MM, LPC073

We made this large swan neck cornice for a customer whose London townhouse had had much of the original cornice removed in the past. Fortunately, there was enough remaining for us to make a mould and then to replace the cornice throughout the property. The end result was that it was impossible to distinguish the original from the newly made and installed cornice.
With a drop of 6 inches, a projection of nearly 9 inches, and a deep cove, this is an absolutely typical Victorian swan neck cornice in a good, large size, ideal for refurbishing and restoring Victorian and Edwardian properties.
Swan neck cornice was used throughout the Victorian period and through into the Edwardian era. Its distinguishing feature is that it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. This gives it a distinctive profile that looks particularly striking on external corners, such as around a chimney breast.
The higher-than-average ceiling heights of Victorian and Edwardian properties, where ceilings often exceed 9 or 10 feet, require a larger cornice such as this to look in proportion.
A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will complement this cornice well. Or, for something more ornate, LPR060 is a classic Victorian design featuring a motif of finely moulded acanthus leaves.
Swan neck cornice was often used throughout a property with varying sizes being used as ceiling heights changed on different floors.
If you are looking to restore a Victorian or Edwardian property, as long as you have the necessary ceiling height, this cornice will be indistinguishable from the original. As can be seen from the pictures opposite, it embodies all that was good in Victorian and Edwardian interior decoration.
Each length of this cornice is made entirely by hand, each individual piece moulded using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I ORDER?
If you measure your plaster coving needs and order an exact amount, one wall could end up being finished in small off-cuts. To avoid this, we recommend you order 15% extra to ensure longer lengths are used wherever possible, as this will create a better finish. This coving comes in 2.4m lengths.
