Plaster Coving Modillion 130mm Drop LPC020
Drop: 130mmProjection: 125mm
Plain modillion block cornices, such as this, have been popular since Georgian times. The style is taken from the ruins of ancient Rome, which became the height of fashion in the Georgian period.
Originally very expensive as all the elements had to be moulded on site and assembled on site. The cost of cornices like this came down dramatically in the Victorian period, when new techniques allowed cornice to be pre-made in lengths and delivered to site.
As a result, the Modillion block cornice became much more widely used, especially in the entrance halls and principal rooms of the larger, grander houses.
This type of cornice has never really gone out of fashion since, Not only is it chosen for the restoration of older Victorian and Edwardian properties, it is also regularly specified for new builds.
With a drop of 130mm (or just over five inches), this cornice is suitable for rooms of average height and slightly above. We have a larger version, XLPC005, with a 160mm drop (or over 6 inches), which is suitable for high ceilings of the sort typically found in bigger Victorian and Edwardian properties.
This cornice looks particularly good when combined with a plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074.
We make all our plaster cornice by hand. Each piece is individually moulded using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times. It would not be possible to make this type of cornice any other way.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I ORDER?
If you measure your plaster coving needs and order an exact amount, one wall could end up being finished in small off-cuts. To avoid this, we recommend you order 15% extra to ensure longer lengths are used wherever possible, as this will create a better finish. This coving comes in 2.3m lengths.
Please remember, our coving is priced and ordered by the metre, not per length. Prices include VAT.
