Weymouth: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to Weymouth and the surrounding area roughly once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order, we use our own vans and drivers to make deliveries to ensure all our cornice arrives in good condition. Our drivers will check that the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand, using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, cornice is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths, each one is individually moulded as are all our ceiling roses, they are truly handmade products.

Originally a seaport, Weymouth became a hugely fashionable seaside resort in the Georgian period regularly frequented by the king; it was during this time that many of Weymouth's elegant seafront villas and terraces were built. Weymouth continued to grow in both size and popularity into the Victorian period. The arrival of the railway in 1856 made the town more accessible, causing the population to grow still further as Weymouth expanded into a hugely popular Victorian resort with its own iconic esplanade and pier.

All of these Georgian and Victorian properties, would have originally had a full set of decorative plaster and timber mouldings, plaster cornice, plaster ceiling roses, plaster panel mouldings, and matching timber skirting boards and architraves. Fortunately most of this has survived but where it has not, we have worked on many of the restorations, always popular for these period property renovations is swan neck cornice.

We also have a range of period timber moulding SB009 and ARC002 are a large Victorian skirting board and architrave which compliment and have similar proportions to, the larger swan neck cornices.

Swan neck cornice was used throughout the Victorian period and through into Edwardian times, it gets its name from the fact it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, its distinctive profile will be recognisable to anybody familiar with older houses. We have a range of different sizes LPC017 is one of our larger swan neck cornices and suitable for the high ceilings found in larger Victorian and Edwardian houses, LPC030 and MPC065 are smaller sizes for above average and average ceiling heights respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a popular choice with any swan neck cornice, if you are looking for something ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses for older houses we have a full range covering all ages and styles of property. Designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above ceilings, it is particularly popular for houses built from the 1920’s onwards and is frequently chosen for new builds, if you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 has just as much style in a smaller size.

Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of pictures of our cornice in real life situations, all these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get a true impression of how a particular cornice would actually look in your own home. It is always surprising just how different the same cornice can look depending on the style in which the room has been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced coving fitters to install your cornice, not only will the finished result be better it should also be cheaper as well as they can fit more coving in a day. They are not caused any problems by ceilings that are not level, walls that are not straight, coving with a pattern on it or corners that are not right angles, all these things are just part of the job especially with older houses.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in touch if required. If you have any other questions or would like any other information or advice, please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
