Weston-super-Mare: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Western Super Mare and the surrounding region about once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers to ensure our coving arrives in good condition, our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand using traditional methods and materials, which have hardly changed since Victorian times. Plaster cornice is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths, each one is individually cast as are all our ceiling roses. They are all truly handmade products. We keep large stocks of finished cornice and ceiling roses allowing us to meet even the largest of orders in a matter of days.

Close to Bristol and Bath, Weston became a popular seaside resort in Victorian times, the first hotel opened in 1810 and the railway arrived in 1841 which made it even more accessible and its popularity grew. The Victorian period saw a huge building boom and the elegant seafront and Grand Pier were built . All of these houses from the Victorian and Edwardian periods would have originally had a full set of decorative plaster mouldings, features such as, plaster cornice, plaster ceiling roses, plaster corbels and panel mouldings, along with matching timber skirting boards and architraves.

Fortunately most of this original plasterwork has survived, where it has not we have worked on many of the renovations. Always popular for these Victorian and Edwardian restoration projects has been Swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. It is classic Victorian design that continued in use well into the Edwardian period, and will be instantly recognisable to anybody familiar with older houses. We have a range of swan neck sizes LPC017 is one of the larger ones and suitable for the high Victorian ceilings which are well above the average heights of today, LPC030 and MPC065 are suitable for above average and average height ceilings respectively. A good choice with any swan neck cornice is a plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 or for something more ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves. We have a range of period timber mouldings to complement our plaster coving SB009 and ARC002 are a popular Victorian skirting board and architrave.

We don't just make plaster coving for older properties we have a full range of sizes and designs to cover houses of all types and ages. Designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with ceilings of average heights and above, it is most often chosen for houses built from the 1920s onwards, if however you do not have the ceiling height, MPC046 has just as much style in a smaller size.

Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, these pages also have hundreds of photographs of our coving in real life settings, these pictures have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an idea of how a particular coving would look in your own home. It is surprising just how different the same design can look depending on the style in which the room has been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to fit your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper, as they can work a lot faster. They will not have problems with walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level or matching a pattern on a miter, all these things are just part of the job especially when working on older houses.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if needed. If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice please call our customer services, they are always happy to talk to you.
