Truro: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster cornice to Truro and the nearby area about once a week. We use our own vans and drivers to ensure your coving arrives in perfect condition. Our drivers handle all plaster mouldings carefully and stack them safely, ready for installation. This is especially important on busy or tight building sites, where materials can easily be damaged if not moved and stored properly.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand, using the same traditional materials and methods that were common in Victorian times. Our plaster coving comes in 2.3 or 2.4 metre (8 foot) lengths. We also keep a large stock of finished coving and ceiling roses. This allows us to fulfill even large orders within days instead of weeks.

As Cornwall's only city, Truro has a rich architectural heritage. Much of its growth happened during the Georgian and Victorian periods. During this time, its role as a market town, administrative centre, and base for the tin mining industry brought wealth to the area. This prosperity led to the construction of elegant townhouses, terraces, and civic buildings. Many of these originally featured decorative plasterwork, such as plaster cornice, ceiling roses, panel mouldings, and corbels. They often paired with matching timber skirting boards and architraves. Thankfully, most of this original detail still exists today, but we are able to assist with many restoration projects where it has been lost.

One of the most popular choices for renovation in older buildings is swan neck coving. It gets its name because it projects more across the ceiling than it drops down the wall. This classic Victorian profile remained popular into the Edwardian period, and its distinctive shape is familiar to anyone who knows traditional houses. We offer several sizes of swan neck cornice.

For higher Victorian ceilings, LPC017 is great for rooms with ceilings of 10 feet or more. LPC030 and MPC065 suit above-average and standard ceiling heights, respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose, like LPR074, complements any swan neck cornice beautifully. LPR060 offers a more decorative Victorian option with acanthus leaf detail.

We don't only make plaster coving for period homes. We have a full range of designs for properties of every age and style. For example, LPC015 fits almost any room with average or higher ceiling heights. It is especially popular in homes built from the 1920s onward. MPC046 provides a similar look in a smaller size, making it suitable for lower ceilings.

You can order samples of all our coving from the individual product, pages which also contain hundreds of photos showing our mouldings in real homes. Customer photos are often the best way to visualise how a specific cornice will look in your own property. It can be surprising how differently the same design appears based on the room size and the style of decoration and furnishing. Samples typically arrive within a couple of days.

We always recommend hiring experienced cornice fitters for your coving installation. They not only provide better final finishes, but it can also be more cost-effective. Skilled fitters deal with uneven walls, unlevel ceilings, awkward corners, and patterned coving. These issues are common, especially in older properties. Because they work more efficiently and to a higher standard, experienced fitters usually complete more in a day and are able to achieve better results.

We have good connections with local tradesmen and may help you find suitable fitters in the area. If you have any questions or need more information or advice, please reach out to our customer service team. They will be happy to assist you.
