Taunton: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Taunton and the surrounding area roughly once a week, so there is only ever a short wait between placing an order and delivery. If you would like an exact delivery time please call customer services who will be able to give you, up to date information. We use our own vans and drivers for delivery to ensure everything arrives in good condition, our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use. This is especially important on busy or crowded sites where damage can occur.
All our plaster cornice and ceiling roses are still made by hand using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times. Plaster coving is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths, each one individually moulded as are all our ceiling roses, they are truly handmade products. We keep large stocks of finished plaster cornice and ceiling roses so that we can meet even the biggest of orders in a matter of days.
Taunton's name comes from the old English ‘Tone Ton’ meaning ‘town on the river Tone, it was a significant Anglo Saxon settlement with its own mint and grew into a prosperous medieval town, prominent in the wool trade. The Grand Western canal reached Taunton in 1839 and the railway three years later, this improved connectivity cemented its position as the major administrative center for the area, in 1935 this was formally recognised when Taunton was made the county town of Somerset.
This long period of steady growth and prosperity has given the Taunton area a wide range of fine houses, of all ages and types. One very popular cornice design for the older houses, has always been swan neck cornice so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. Swan neck coving was used extensively throughout the Victorian period and into the Edwardian era, its distinctive profile will be recognisable to anybody familiar with older houses. We have a number of different sizes. LPC017 for instance is one of the larger sizes suitable for rooms with ceilings much higher than average, it is not out of place with ceiling heights of 10 feet or more. LPC030 and MPC065 are suitable for above average and average ceiling heights respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a good choice to complement any swan neck cornice or for something more ornate, LPR060 is a classic Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.
We don't just make plaster cornice for older properties, we have a complete range covering all ages and types of houses, designs such as LPC015 which looks good anywhere with an above average ceiling height and is especially popular for houses built from the 1920’s onwards, if you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 is just as stylish though in a smaller size. We also supply a range of period timber mouldings such as SB009 and ARC002, a large Victorian skirting board and architrave, the perfect match for one of the larger swan neck cornices.
Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, these pages also have hundreds of photographs of our coving in real life situations, these pictures have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an impression of how a particular cornice would look in your own home. It is surprising just how different the same design can look depending on how the room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your coving, not only will the finished job be better, it should also be cheaper. They will get more coving fitted in a day because they do not have problems with walls that are not straight or ceilings that are not level, or corners that are not right angles, let alone matching a pattern. These are all things that are just part of the job especially with older houses.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if needed. If you require any other information or would like any advice, please call our customer services team. They will be happy to talk to you.
