Poole: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster cornice to Poole and the surrounding area once a week or so. Our warehouse in Arundel is only 80 miles away and we deliver to many customers along the south coast. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to ensure our cornice arrives in good condition, our drivers will also check that coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready to be used, this is important on busy or crowded building sites where space can be short and damage can occur after delivery.

We still use traditional methods to make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses, each 8 foot (2.4) length of coving is individually moulded using the same techniques and materials that were used by the Victorians, ceiling roses are all also individually made by hand.

With the second largest natural harbour in the world, Poole became wealthy in the middle ages from the wool trade, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the Newfoundland trade also generated great wealth which financed Poole's fine Georgian buildings. Poole then grew rapidly in the twentieth century with the population growing from nineteen thousand in 1901 to nearly one hundred and forty thousand in 2001, meaning much of Poole’s housing stock dates from the Edwardian era onwards.

We have supplied plaster cornice to many of these houses and several designs stand out as being popular, if you are not sure what to choose or would just like some inspiration, these would be a good place to start. For more modern houses with larger rooms and average and above ceiling heights, LPC015 is very popular. It is a plain run stylish cornice, not tied to any particular period or style that catches the light creating attractive areas of light and shade bringing elegance to any room. If your ceiling heights are lower MPC046 is just as effective, or for some art deco style MPC028 is an attractive three step cornice. A plain spun ceiling rose such as MPR073 will complement any of these cornices.

If you have an older property, swan neck cornice is our most popular style, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, it was used extensively throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Whilst the name may not be familiar, its distinctive profile will be instantly recognisable to anybody who enjoys older houses. We have a number of different sizes, the Victorians having used essentially the same design in different sizes depending on the height of the ceiling and the size of the room. LPC018 is one of the larger sizes and suited to the high ceilings of larger Victorian and Edwardian properties, MPC065 is smaller and suited to average height ceilings, it is often used in more modern properties to give a traditional style to a room.

Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages on the website, these pages also feature hundreds of pictures sent in by our customers of our ceiling roses and coving in real life situations. The pictures are the best way to get an impression of how a particular design would really look in your own house. It is always surprising just how different the same cornice  can look in two different rooms depending on the way in which they have been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper. They will not have problems with walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level or corners that are not right angles, not to mention cornice with a pattern on it. These are all things that are just part of the job especially when working on older houses where very few things are straight or level. If you are careful it is also possible to fit it yourself, especially the smaller designs, you just need to take it slowly, we have some useful guides and videos on the website to help you do this.

Our customer services team have good links with local tradesmen and can put you in touch if needed, they also have a wealth of experience and are always happy to answer any questions and give customers any other help or advice they may need.
