Paignton: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver Plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to Paignton and throughout the south west at least once a week. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries as our products are fragile and it is impossible to get any delivery company to deliver them safely at anything like a reasonable cost. The vans do get full, so please if possible don't order at the last minute, though if you are, we will do our best to accommodate you. Our drivers will also check coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where space is short and damage can occur after delivery.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times, coving is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths each piece individually moulded. We keep large stocks of finished coving allowing us to meet even the biggest orders in a couple of days. If you are ordering coving please remember it is sold by the meter, you enter the number of meters you require, NOT the number of lengths.

Paignton was a agricultural and fishing community with a population of around fifteen hundred at the beginning of the nineteenth century, it was transformed by the arrival of the South Devon Railway in 1859, into a fashionable Victorian seaside resort. The pier was built in 1879 and marshland was drained to create the Esplanade. Opulent Victorian hotels and Villas were built along with a wealth of other Victorian and Edwardian property.

All of these houses and hotels originally had full sets of decorative plaster mouldings, plaster cornice, ceiling roses and perhaps corbels and panel mouldings, fortunately most of this has survived and where it has not, we have worked on many of the renovations. Several styles have always been popular for these Victorian cornice restorations, for a large ornate impressive Victorian cornice LPC019 is hard to beat it would have been on display in the principle rooms of the grander Victorian houses to create an impression of opulence and style, as it does to this day. Equally popular is swan neck cornice , so called because it reaches further across the ceiling than it extends down the wall. It is a classic Victorian design that was used well into the Edwardian period, It was used across all sizes of property with different versions of essentially the same design being used depending on the size of the room and the height of the ceiling. One of our larger swan neck cornices is LPC017 this suitable for the high ceilings of larger detached and semi detached houses. MPC065 is a smaller size suitable for average height ceilings and is often used in the upstairs rooms of older houses and throughout more recently built properties. LPC030 is an in between size for higher than average ceilings but not the highest, a good choice for a ceiling rose to go with any of these is a plain spun rose such as LPR074 or for something more ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We do not just make coving for older houses we have a full range covering all ages and types of property, cornices such as LPC015 a stylish design that adds elegance to any room, it is not tied to any particular period and looks its best in rooms with ceilings of average and above height. MPC046 adds just as much style and has smaller proportions for rooms with lower ceilings. MPC028 is a three step Art Deco design for some 1930s style.

Samples of all our cornices are available off the individual product pages on the website, on these pages you will also find hundreds of photographs of our coving and ceiling roses in real life situations, all these pictures have been sent in by our customers and they are the best way to get a true impression of how a particular cornice or ceiling rose would actually look if fitted in your own home. It is always surprising just how different the same cornice or ceiling rose can look depending on the way the rooms in the photographs have been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a few days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your cornice, not only will the finished job be better it should also be cheaper. They will not have problems with ceiling that are not level or walls that are not straight not to mention mitres that are not right angles or matching a pattern on a corner. All these things are actually normal parts of the job and to be expected especially when working on older properties where few things are level or straight. We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required.

If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please give our customer services team a call, they have years of experience between them and are always happy to talk to customers.
