Inverness: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Inverness and the surrounding area usually once a week, even during the quieter times of the year, nobody should ever have to wait for more than two weeks for a delivery. We would appreciate it if customers could place orders as far in advance as possible as we use our own vans and drivers for coving deliveries, our products are fragile and no courier company can deliver them safely at anything like a reasonable cost.
We still make all our plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses by hand, we use the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times, coving is moulded in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths, each one of which is individually moulded. We keep large quantities of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock to allow us to meet even the largest orders in a matter of days. Please note when ordering cornice is priced by the meter, please enter the number of meters you require not the number of lengths and we will send you the correct amount, thanks
Inverness has many fine houses dating back to the Georgian period and earlier, having grown rapidly in Victorian times, the population more than doubling during the nineteenth century, when wealth was created from international trade, shipbuilding, distilling and the woollen industry, all helped by the opening of the Caledonian canal in 1822 and the arrival of the railway in 1855. This growth in population in the Victorian period led to the building of large amounts of new housing. All these houses would have originally had full sets of decorative plaster and matching timber mouldings, fortunately most of this has survived and where it has not we have worked on many of the renovations.
Probably the most popular choice for these Victorian cornice restorations has been swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. The design was used widely throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods, across all types of houses, with larger sizes of essentially the same design being used in larger rooms with higher ceilings.
We have a number of different sizes of swan neck cornice LPC017 is one of the larger ones and suitable for the high ceilings of larger Victorian semi detached and detached houses. MPC065 is a smaller size with good proportions for average height ceilings and is often used in bedrooms and in more modern houses to add some period style. If you are looking for a ceiling rose, a plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a good match for any Victorian cornice, or for something more ornate LPC019 and LPR060 are a richly decorated Victorian cornice and a matching ceiling rose.
We don't just make plaster coving for older houses, we have a wide range covering all ages, styles and size of property. Designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above ceiling heights, it is not tied to any particular period and usually chosen for houses built from the Edwardian era onwards and very often for new builds, MPC046 has just as much style and comes in a size suitable for lower ceilings, we have Art Deco designs such as MPC028 a stepped cornice perfect for creating some 1930s style.
Samples of all our coving can be ordered off the individual product pages, these pages also feature hundreds of pictures of our coving and ceiling roses in real life situations, all these photographs have been taken by customers and are the best way to get an idea of how a particular cornice or ceiling rose would actually look in your own home. The same cornice or ceiling rose can look completely different depending on the style in which rooms have been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your coving, the end result will be better and it should also be cheaper, they will not have problems with ceilings that are not level or walls that are not straight, not to mention coving with a pattern on it or corners that are not right angles. All these things are expected parts of the job especially when working on older houses.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required. If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice please give our customer services team a call, they have years of experience between them and are always happy to help.
