Hull: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster coving to Hull and the surrounding area at least once a week. We use our own vans and drivers to make sure our coving arrives in good condition, our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use. This is important on busy or crowded sites where damage can occur.
All our plaster cornice and ceiling roses are made by hand, cornice is made in 2.4 meter (8 foot) lengths, each one is individually moulded as are all our ceiling roses. We still use the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, the whole process from start to finish is done completely by hand. We keep large stocks of finished coving and ceiling roses, so that we are able to meet even the largest orders in a matter of days rather than weeks.
Hull has been a major British port since the medieval period, it was the largest whaling port in the country by the end of the eighteenth century. The nineteenth century brought further expansion in ship building and from the major shipping lines based at the port; there was also considerable growth in the fishing industry. This prosperity led to the building of many new houses in the Victorian period. All of these houses would originally have had full sets of decorative plaster mouldings, consisting of plaster cornice, ceiling roses, panel mouldings and corbels, along with matching timber mouldings. Fortunately most of these have survived but where they have not, we have worked on many of the restorations.
One of the most popular cornice profiles for these renovation projects is swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. Swan neck cornice was extremely popular in Victorian times, its popularity continuing through into the Edwardian period. Its distinctive profile will be instantly recognisable to anyone familiar with older properties. We have a range of sizes, LPC017 is suitable for the highest of Victorian ceilings, LPC030 and MPC065 are the right size for above average and average height ceilings respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose will go well with any swan neck cornice, if you would like something more ornate, LPR060 is quality Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves. We also have a range of authentic timber mouldings such as SB009, a large Victorian Skirting board and ARC002 a matching timber architrave.
We don't just make plaster cornice for older properties, we have a full range catering for properties of all ages and types. Designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above average ceiling heights, if you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 is equally stylish with smaller proportions. An ogee cornice such as MPC039 will also match the ogee moulding of most peoples skirting boards and architraves of the last 150 years.
Samples of all our coving are available on the individual product pages, also on these pages you will see hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, these are pictures that have been sent in by our customers, they are the best way to get an idea of how a particular design would actually look in your own home. It is surprising just how different the same cornice can look depending on the way in which the room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper, experienced fitters will not have problems with walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level, corners that are not right angles or coving with a pattern on it. All these things are just part of the job especially when working on older houses, as a result they will be able to put up more cornice in a day and the cornice they fit will be done to a higher standard.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact. If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please call our customer services team. They will be happy to talk to you.
