Huddersfield: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving to the Huddersfield area at least twice a week, we use our own vans and drivers to ensure the coving arrives in good condition, on delivery our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.

Our warehouse is in Stockport just off junction 28 of the M60, it's only an hour's drive from Huddersfield and many customers prefer to come over and collect their coving and ceiling roses. You do not have to order online first, we have samples in the warehouse you can look at, you can then pay for your order and take it away with you, all in one visit. The warehouse is open between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

All our plaster cornice and ceiling roses are hand made using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, our coving is in 8 foot (2.4 metre) lengths and each length and each ceiling rose are individually moulded, the whole process from start to finish is done entirely by hand. Here is a video of our MPR063 being made.

Huddersfield’s central role in the wool Industry led to its rapid growth in the nineteenth century, and the wealth generated has left a legacy of fine Victorian buildings. All of these Victorian buildings would have originally had decorative plaster cornice and ceiling roses. Fortunately most of this has survived and where it has not we have worked on the restoration of many commercial and residential buildings.

For the renovation of Victorian houses one design has consistently been popular. Swan Neck Coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, is a classic Victorian cornice that continued to be used, right through into the Edwardian period. Its distinctive profile will be instantly recognisable to anyone familiar with older houses.

We have a range of sizes, with something for every ceiling height, Victorian ceilings were typically higher than those of today's houses, LPC030 is a swan neck cornice with the right proportions for the average Victorian ceiling. If you have particularly high ceilings LPC017 may be more suitable and for lower ceilings, perhaps upstairs or where ceilings have been lowered, try MPC065. If you need a ceiling rose, a plain spun rose such as LPR074 will go with any of these, or for something more ornate LPR060 is a classic Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make cornice for older houses, we make a range of designs for all ages and styles of property. LPC015 is a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above ceiling heights, it's a favourite for houses built from the 1920s onwards. If you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 looks equally good and has smaller proportions.

Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, these pages also have hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an idea of how a particular design would look in your own home. It is always surprising to see just how different the same design can look depending on the style in which a room has been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you always use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the result be better, it should also be cheaper. Experienced fitters will have no problems with ceilings that are not level, walls that are not straight, coving with a pattern and corners that are not right angles, all things that are just part of the job, especially when working on older houses. They will as a result, be able to fit more coving in a day and the work they do will be to a higher standard.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact. If you have any questions or would like any other information, please call our customer services team. They will be happy to talk to you.
