Horsham: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice to Horsham and the surrounding area at least once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order, we use our own vans and drivers to deliver coving to make sure it arrives in good condition. Our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where space is short and damage can occur.
All our plaster cornices and plaster ceiling roses are made by hand, cornice is made in 8 foot (2.4meter) lengths, each length is individually moulded as are all our ceiling roses. We use the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, the whole process being done entirely by hand. We keep large stocks of finished plaster cornice and ceiling roses, so that we can meet even the biggest orders in a few days rather than weeks.
Horsham grew rapidly in the nineteenth century, its population increasing from 1539 in 1801, to over 10,000 in 1900. This growth from a market town was largely driven by the coming of the railway in 1848 and led to the building of many new houses in the Victorian period. All these properties would have originally had plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses, fortunately most of this has survived, though where it has not we have worked on many of the restorations.
Always popular for these renovation projects has been swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. The swan neck profile was used widely in Victorian times and through into the Edwardian period. We have a range of sizes LPC017 is one of the larger, suited for the highest Victorian ceilings, LPC030 and MPC065 are both smaller and ideal for the majority of Victorian properties. A plain spun ceiling rose will go well with any swan neck cornice or for something more ornate, LPR060 is a fine Victorian design, of acanthus leaves.
We don't just make coving for older houses we have a full range of designs to suit every age and type of property, designs such as LPC015, a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere that has a reasonable ceiling height, if your ceilings are lower MPC046 or MPC051 are just as effective and have smaller proportions. Samples of all our cornices are available on the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of pictures of our cornice in real life settings, these photographs have been sent in by our customers, they are the best way to get an impression of have a particular cornice would actually look in your own home. It is surprising just how different the same cornice can look depending on the style in which a room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would recommend you use experienced cornice fitters to install your cornice, not only will the finished job be better it should also be cheaper. Experienced fitters will not have problems with walls that are not straight, corners that are not right angles, ceilings that are not level and coving with a pattern on it. All these things are just part of the job especially with older houses, experienced fitters will put more coving up in a day and to a higher standard.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact. If you have any questions or would like any other information or advice, please call our customer services team. They will be pleased to speak to you.
