Hexham: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to Hexham and the surrounding area at least once a week, so there is never long to wait for delivery after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure everything arrives in good condition, our drivers will also check that coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use. This is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where space may be short and damage can occur.
We make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand, still using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times. Plaster coving is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths each one individually moulded. Our plaster ceiling roses are each individually moulded by hand. We carry large stocks of finished coving and ceiling roses so that we can meet even the largest orders in days not weeks.
Hexham's history dates back to the Anglo Saxon period, the surviving Saxon crypt of Hexham abbey is one of the most important ecclesiastical buildings in the country. Fought over in the middle ages, Hexham settled down to become a thriving market town. The Newcastle and Carlisle railway arrived in 1837 and wealthy Victorian industrialists from Tyneside built grand houses on the town's outskirts from where they could commute to their factories.
Today Hexham has a mixture of fine Victorian and Georgian properties, with more modern developments outside the town centre. All of these Victorian houses would have originally had plaster cornice and other decorative plaster mouldings throughout, along with matching timber skirting boards and architraves. Always popular for Victorian properties of all sizes was swan neck cornice, so called because it reaches further across the ceiling than it extends down the wall, whilst people may not recognise the name the cornice itself will be recognisable to anybody familiar with Victorian and Edwardian houses.
LPC017 is one of our larger swan neck cornices and is suitable for the high ceilings of larger detached and semi detached Victorian and Edwardian houses, MPC065 is a smaller size suitable for ceilings of an average height, perhaps the bedrooms of older properties or to create a Victorian feel in a more modern house. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is always a good choice to go with any swan neck cornice, or if you would like something more ornate LPR060 is fine Victorian ceiling rose featuring a bold acanthus leaf design. We also have a small range of timber skirting boards and architraves, these are all original period designs and in the larger sizes and quality of timber that it is very hard to find these days, SB009 and ARC002 are a large Victorian skirting board and matching architrave, these will complement the larger swan neck cornices well.
We don't just make plaster cornice and ceiling roses for older properties, designs such as MPC053 and LPC015 will look stylish in houses of all ages that have average and above average ceiling heights respectively, should your ceilings be lower, MPC046 has just as much style but smaller proportions.
Samples of all our plaster cornice are available off the individual product pages, these pages also feature hundreds of images of our cornice and ceiling roses in real life situations, all these photographs have been sent in by our customers and they are the best way to form an accurate impression of how a particular cornice or ceiling rose would actually look in your own home. The same cornice or ceiling rose can look totally different depending on the style in which the room has been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper, they will not have problems with ceilings that are not level or walls that are not straight not to mention corners that are not right angles, they understand that all these things are just part of the the job, especially when working on older houses. It is also possible to put it up yourself, if you are careful and take it slowly, we have a number of videos on the website that will help you do this.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required, if you have any other questions or would like any other help or advice please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
