Grantham: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Grantham and throughout Lincolnshire at least once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure our products arrive in good condition. Our drivers will check that coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.
We make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand, still using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, a period from which we have many authentic designs. Plaster coving is made in 8 foot(2.4M) lengths each one individually moulded, our plaster ceiling roses are also made individually entirely by hand, truly handmade products. We keep large quantities of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock so that we are able to meet even the largest orders in a couple of days.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century Grantham was a prosperous coaching and market town situated on the Great North Road, by the end of the Victorian period Grantham's population had grown five fold and it had become a major manufacturing center specialising in the manufacture of engines and agricultural engineering. This rapid population growth in the Victorian and Edwardian periods created a demand for all types of new housing and today Grantham has a fine range of Victorian, Edwardian, Georgian and earlier properties.
All of the Victorian and Edwardian houses would have originally had decorative plaster mouldings and fortunately most of these have survived, where they have not, plaster cornice can easily be replaced with authentic period cornice designs. We have worked on the renovation of many of these properties and several designs have been consistently popular. Swan neck coving was used extensively throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, if a room was larger with higher ceilings then a larger more detailed swan neck cornice would be used, Swan neck cornice was used everywhere from large detached villas to terraced houses.
LPC017 is one of our larger swan neck cornices and suitable for the high ceilings of detached and larger semi detached Victorian houses, MPC065 is a smaller size that suits average height ceilings it is also often used in more modern houses to create a warm welcoming atmosphere. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will go well with any Victorian cornice or for something more ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.
We don't only make plaster coving for older properties we have a full range of designs covering all ages and types of house. Designs such as MPC028 a classic three step Art Deco cornice that oozes 1930s style, or LPC015 an elegant cornice not tied to any particular period that will completely transform any room with average or above ceiling heights, if your ceilings are lower MPC046 will create the same effect in a smaller space.
Samples of all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses are available off the individual product pages on the website. These pages also feature hundreds of photographs of our cornice and ceiling roses in real life settings, all of these pictures have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an idea of how a particular coving or ceiling rose would actually look in your own home. They are also a good source of inspiration as some of our customers have created some very stylish interiors, it is always surprising just how different the same rose or cornice can look in these different settings. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper. They will not have difficulties with bay windows or ceilings that are not level or walls that are not straight, all things that are just part of the job especially when working on older houses. We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if needed.
If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
