Exeter: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving to Exeter and the surrounding area at least once a week, so there is never a long wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure our coving arrives in good condition. Our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready to be used, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times. Coving is made in 2.4 meter (8 foot) lengths, each length is individually moulded, as are all our plaster ceiling roses, the whole process from start to finish is done entirely by hand. We keep large quantities of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock so that we are able to meet even the largest orders in a matter of days rather than weeks.

Exeter's long history and prosperity has given it a mixture of both old and new quality houses, with certain styles and designs of cornice being more popular than others in the area. Here are some of the more popular designs, they are only intended as suggestions and as places to start your search, the most important thing is to choose a design you like. Cornices such as LPC001, a large ogee cornice will match the ogee mouldings in the skirting boards and architraves of most houses built in the last 200 years.

If you have one of Exeter's many Victorian properties, swan neck cornice is a popular choice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. It is a classic Victorian cornice that continued in use into the Edwardian era, its distinctive profile will be familiar to anybody who knows Victorian houses. We have a number of different sizes of swan neck cornice, LPC017 is one of the larger ones and suitable for rooms with ceilings well above average height, with LPC030 and MPC065 being suitable for above average, and average ceiling heights respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 is a good choice with any swan neck cornice, or if you would prefer something more ornate LPR060 is quality Victorian ceiling rose featuring acanthus leaves.

For more modern houses a design like LPC015 is a popular choice, it looks good anywhere where the ceiling heights are average and above, MPC046 is just as stylish but with smaller proportions for those with lower ceilings. Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get a true impression of how a particular design would look in your own home. It is surprising how different the same cornice can look depending on the way in which the rooms have been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will they do a better job it should also be cheaper. Experienced fitters do not have problems with walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level, corners that are not right angles and coving with a pattern on it. These are all just part of the job especially with older houses, experienced fitters can get more done in a day and do it to a higher standard.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in touch. If you have any other questions or would like any other information or advice, please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
