Dundee: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster cornice to Dundee and the surrounding area roughly once a week, we use our own vans and drivers to ensure our coving arrives in good condition, the drivers will check that the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times, our plaster coving is made is 2.4 meter (8 foot) lengths, each one individually moulded, as are, all our ceiling roses, the whole process from start to finish is done entirely by hand. We keep large quantities of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock, so that we can meet even the biggest orders in a matter of days rather than weeks.

Dundee grew rapidly in the nineteenth century, the Jute industry employed thousands of people processing the Jute imported from India into finished products, shipbuilding also became a major industry and employer. Dundee's wealth and prosperity during the Victorian period and ever growing population led to the building of large amounts of housing and many fine public buildings. All of these buildings would originally have had a full set of decorative plaster mouldings, plaster cornice, ceiling roses, panel mouldings and corbels, with matching timber skirting boards and architraves, fortunately most of this has survived but where it has not we have worked on many of the restorations.

Always popular for these renovation projects has been swan neck coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, it is a classic Victorian profile that was used well into the Edwardian period, its distinctive design will be recognisable to anybody who is familiar with older houses. We have a number of different sizes of swan neck cornice, for those with high Victorian ceilings LPC017 is good for ceilings of 10 foot or more, LPC030 and MPC065 are suitable for above average and average height ceilings respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will go well with any swan neck cornice, if however you would like something more ornate LPR060 is a fine Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves. SB009 and ARC002 are matching Victorian timber skirting boards and architraves, should you need to replace the timber mouldings as well.

We do not only make plaster coving for older houses we have a complete range covering all ages and styles of property. Designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average or above ceilings heights, it is especially popular for houses built from the 1920s onwards, MPC046 is just as stylish but in a smaller size should your ceiling heights be lower. Samples of all our coving are available on the individual product pages, these pages also feature hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, all these photographs have been sent in by our customers and they are the best way to get an impression of how a particular cornice would actually look in your own home. It is surprising how different the same cornice can look in different rooms depending on the style in which they have been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to put up your coving, not only will the finish be better it should also be cheaper. Experienced fitters will not have any difficulties with walls that are not straight, ceilings that are not level, corners that are not right angles and coving with a pattern on it. All these things are just part of the job especially with older houses. Experienced fitters will fit more coving in a day, and their work will be to a higher standard.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in touch, if you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please give our customer services team a call, they will be pleased to talk to you.
