Barry: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving and ceiling roses to all of South Wales around once a week and deliveries to Barry are at least weekly. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to ensure our coving arrives in good condition, and to keep it in good condition our drivers will check that it is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites, where damage can occur.

We make all our plaster cornice by hand using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times, cornice is made in 8 foot lengths (2.4M) each length is individually moulded as are all our ceiling roses, they are truly handmade products.

Barry was the largest coal exporting port in the world by the end of the Victorian period, during which time it had grown from a population of 500 in 1881 to 38,000 by 1914. This huge expansion led to the building of many Victorian and Edwardian houses to house the ever growing working population. At this time all houses had decorative plasterwork, that is plaster cornice and ceiling roses. Fortunately most of this has survived though where it has not we have worked on many of the restorations.

Always popular for these Victorian renovation projects is swan neck coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. It is a classic victorian cornice design that continued in use well into the Edwardian period, its distinctive profile will be familiar to many people. We have a range of different swan neck cornices for different ceiling heights, profiles such as LPC017 are ideal for the very high ceilings of some Victorian houses whilst LPC030 and MPC065 are smaller sizes suitable for above average and average height ceilings respectively.

A plain spun plaster ceiling rose such as MPR073 is a good choice to match any swan neck cornice, alternatively if you are looking for something more ornate, LPR060 is quality Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make plaster cornice for older properties, LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above ceiling heights is very popular for properties built since the 1920s, and is often chosen for new builds. If you do not have the ceiling height, MPC046 is equally stylish with smaller proportions.

You can order samples of all our cornice off the individual product pages, these pages also feature hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life settings, all these photographs have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an impression of how a particular design would look in your own home. It is always surprising just how different the same cornice can look depending on how the rooms have been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would always recommend you use experienced fitters to install the cornice, the job will be quicker, smoother and usually cheaper as they will be able to fit a lot more cornice in a day and the work they do will be to a higher standard. They will not have problems with ceilings that are not level, walls that are not straight or corners that are not right angles, these are all just part of the job especially with older houses.

We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required, if you have any other questions or would like any other information or advice please call our customer services team they will always be happy to talk to you.

Our popular LPC017 truly elevates this lounge providing an immaculate finish. This design is perfect for period properties with high ceilings, for lower ceilings our MPC065 will give you the exact luxurious effect.
