The egg and dart design has its origins in ancient Greece, where it was used in the decorative stonework of temples, the design was then copied by the Romans and spread across Europe with the expansion of the Roman Empire.

When, in Georgian times, classical architecture and design became once again the height of fashion, the egg and dart design began to appear in plaster cornice and in the carved stonework of the more elegant houses.

The design continued in fashion into the Victorian period, from which this is a typical egg and dart Victorian plaster cornice.

With a drop of four inches, this cornice is ideal for rooms with average ceiling heights. As a result, it is widely used by our customers in Victorian terraces and in more modern houses, where it's used to give a property a feeling of a little more age.

As the pictures opposite show, this egg and dart cornice can be used throughout the house in bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, hallways, in all of which it adds an unmistakable style.

We make each length of this cornice by hand. Each length is individually moulded using the same techniques and materials that we used in the Victorian period.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I ORDER?

If you measure your plaster coving needs and order an exact amount, one wall could end up being finished in small off-cuts. To avoid this, we recommend you order 15% extra to ensure longer lengths are used wherever possible, as this will create a better finish. This coving comes in 2.4m lengths.

Please remember, our coving is priced and ordered by the metre, not per length. Prices include VAT.

How quickly can I have delivery ?

We use our own vans and drivers to deliver coving. Our products are fragile and need to be handled carefully.

Using our own transport ensures your coving arrives in good condition and customers are kept up to date with progress on the day of delivery. We deliver to the vast majority of the UK within five working days, often sooner.

If you live in an isolated area, deliveries will be less frequent than somewhere like the centre of London, where we have multiple vans every day.
