Plaster Coving Large Victorian Grand Entrance Hall 120mm Drop LPC024

This is the style of plaster cornice that would have greeted you when you stepped into the entrance hall of a Victorian house, designed to look impressive. It’s heavily decorated with modillion blocks and acanthus leaves. This design is based upon the carved stone cornices of ancient Greek temples, a style that became the height of fashion during the Georgian period. It became possible to produce cornices of this style off-site during the Victorian period. With this reduction in costs their use became much more widespread, although still reserved for the better quality houses.
This type of plaster cornice is not the easiest to fit, and we would recommend using a professional fitter. If, however, you wish to do it yourself, it's possible as long as you are careful, and we have some helpful informational videos on this website to assist you. Along with all the fixing materials and tools you will need.
Although originally a Victorian Cornice, customers today put this type of coving in all types of houses. Wherever it is put, it will always make a statement.
We have two other sizes of cornice in this style: MPC012, which has a drop of 90mm (just under 4 inches), suitable for lower ceilings, and LPC019, which has a drop of 170mm (nearly seven inches). This is a substantial cornice which requires high ceilings, typically found in larger Victorian, and Edwardian properties, to look in proportion.
Each length of this plaster cornice is hand made, using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I ORDER?
If you measure your plaster coving needs and order an exact amount, one wall could end up being finished in small off-cuts. To avoid this, we recommend you order 15% extra to ensure longer lengths are used wherever possible, as this will create a better finish. This coving comes in 2.3m lengths.
