Lighting Up Harston - LED Coving for a Stylish Hallway

Lighting Up Harston - LED Coving for a Stylish Hallway

Location:

Harston is a village and civil parish in South Cambridgeshire, England, located around 5 miles south of Cambridge

Background:

Period homes often present the challenge of balancing traditional features with modern functionality. Annie and her husband, known on Instagram as @the_edwardian_renovation, took on the task of transforming their hallway into a sophisticated yet inviting space. Their vision was to enhance the architectural beauty of their Edwardian home while introducing warm, ambient lighting through the use of LED-integrated coving.

The Challenge:

The couple wanted to elevate their hallway with intricate Victorian coving but also desired soft, indirect lighting to enhance the space’s atmosphere.

The challenge was to seamlessly integrate LED strips into traditional plaster coving while ensuring a polished, professional finish.

Undertaking the installation themselves added another layer of complexity, requiring careful planning and precise execution.

The Project Plan:

To achieve their desired look, Annie and her husband selected Victorian Entrance Hall coving (LPC019) from our website. This is a large, highly decorative Victorian cornice featuring Acanthus leaves, modillions, Egg and Dart detailing, and a Dentil course. This substantial 175mm drop coving was the perfect choice for their period hallway.

They also incorporated Large Acanthus Leaf Coving (LPC021) and two ornate ceiling roses (MPR061 and LPR060) to enhance the space’s grandeur further.

The installation involved:

• Measuring and planning the placement of both the coving and LED strips to ensure even lighting distribution.

• Fixing the coving securely to the walls and ceiling using adhesive and fasteners.

• Installing the LED strip, carefully positioning it within the coving to create a seamless glow.

• Connecting the LED system to a transformer for efficient power distribution.

Before & After:

Before the project, the hallway lacked warmth and architectural detail. By adding intricate coving and integrating soft LED lighting, the space was completely transformed. The once plain hallway now exudes elegance, with the lighting accentuating the period details and creating a cosy yet sophisticated ambiance.
