Kelly & Ben’s Georgian Home: Installing Ornate Ceiling Roses

Kelly & Ben’s Georgian Home: Installing Ornate Ceiling Roses

What inspired your home renovation project, and what vision did you have in mind for the space?

“A family friend owned the property and wanted to sell it after his wife sadly passed away."

This Georgian house in Essex was in desperate need of repair as it hadn’t been lived in properly for years and was originally built in the late 1700’s. They really wished to modernise their property whilst still having some carefully selected Georgian elements as it was outdated and in need of a refresh. Rooms requiring renovation included the lounge, hallway, kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom.

“We fell in love with the history and character of the property so took on the challenge."

What made you choose our plaster ceiling roses for your property, and how have our products enhanced the overall look?

“We came across your website and we loved that we could match the rose to the character of our home.”

On our website, we’ve curated a thoughtful selection of ceiling roses and coving inspired by the elegance and craftsmanship of the Georgian era/period. These designs remain some of our most loved, capturing the symmetry, refinement and quiet drama that defined the period. We also include a wide range of customer photos featuring the roses in place, allowing future customers to better envision their own interior projects.

Ben and Kelly, who own a beautiful Georgian home, wanted to stay true to the character of their property. To complement the generous proportions of their rooms, they selected two pieces from our larger Georgian range: the Georgian Plaster Ceiling Rose 930mm LPR049 and the Large Ornate Georgian Plaster Ceiling Rose 930mm LPR070.

The LPR070 features a stunning peacock feather motif, a detail that occasionally appeared in Georgian decorative arts and adds a subtle touch of storytelling to the space. They are hand crafted from gypsum plaster. With both roses measuring an impressive 930mm in diameter, they’re ideal for larger rooms where bold, period appropriate detailing can truly shine.

“The quality of the rose and the fact it was a Georgian style would enhance the look of the ceilings and stay within the era of the property."

Can you describe the style and period of your property?

“The house was built in the late 1700’s and then became a Boarding School in the early 1800’s.  It’s a Georgian house with some Victorian elements (popular in Essex).  In the 1980’s a builder did add an extension to the rear of the property."

Georgian and Victorian-inspired interiors are known for their decorative and ornate features as-well as intricate plaster mouldings. However there is no right or wrong answer, it's important to choose a style that you like and can visualise lasting a lifetime in your property.

Were there any particular challenges you faced during the renovation process, and how did you overcome them?

"Our home is a grade 2 listed building so I wanted to make absolute sure that we was selecting the correct sizes for both authenticity and balance, the option to easily order samples really helped me make the right decision and for ceiling roses, I was advised to cut out roses sizes from paper to hold up as a prototype, this was really useful to help discover a well balanced focal point and gave me that extra bit of confidence when committing to my order"

Like Kelly and Ben if you are unsure about what size you need to order, don't overthink it. First thing about how you would describe your ceiling heights and room sizes, are they small, medium or large? Once you have answered that question, it's as simple as browsing our collections, which are conveniently categorised into small, medium and large. Otherwise, our friendly customer service team will be happy to guide you and help you make the correct choice.

What made you choose our ceiling roses?

“We had already purchased a rose for the bedroom and the size and detail blew us away.  It definitely was a feature in our room and made us realise it added something special to the design of our house."

As mentioned prior Kelly selected two Georgian inspired ceiling roses that perfectly complement her Georgian home.

Large Ornate Georgian Plaster Ceiling Rose 930mm LPR070

Both of these designs are handmade from gypsum plaster, using original materials and traditional techniques.  These two ceiling roses are definitely standout pieces in her home, they are classics and feature peacock feathers that are influenced by the Georgian era.
