Location:
Leytonstone, London
Background:
Gemma Ford @no12london is renovating her Victorian terrace in East London with a focus on preserving / adding period character while working within a realistic budget. Coving was next on the list - an architectural detail that elevates a space subtly but significantly.
The Challenge:
Victorian homes are full of character - and quirks. In this case, the living space featured a curved corner that made standard coving installation anything but straightforward.
Achieving a clean, seamless finish around that curve demanded more than just determination; it called for an expert’s eye and a skilled hand to get it just right.
The Project Plan:
Gemma found the perfect Victorian style coving on ‘Plaster Ceiling Roses’ website. She selected our classic Victorian cornice, with a central cove and convex and concave details above and below. This is perfect for restoration work on a Victorian house, its clean lines also make it a popular choice for modern homes.
To ensure she was happy with the profile she ordered a sample first - and then placed an order for 27M (she added 20% extra for off cuts). A local fibrehand / fitter was sourced to install the coving and fabricate the additional curve with precision and experience.
The installation involved:
• Victorian Coving York Medium Straight Run with a 120mm drop (MPC072)
• Custom curved section created to follow the profile of (MPC072)
• Clean, crisp finish ready for painting
Before & After:
Gemma really wanted coving in her room but was initially doubtful that this could be achieved due to the curved aspect of one wall. She found a local company offering a ‘made to match’ service.
Gemma says, “I love learning new renovation skills but I was very happy to sit this one out and admire the results! Installing coving looks straightforward enough but the team did a fabulous job of tackling the coving around the curvy corner (plus they did it in a fraction of the time it would have taken me to do).”
If you’re considering a similar project, ‘Plaster Ceiling Roses’ can recommend a trusted independent local fibrehand (from our nationwide database) who can create a perfect bespoke curve for you to match the profile of our coving.

Final Thoughts:
Although Gemma loves taking on DIY projects herself, knowing when to bring in professionals was key. The curved corner coving was completed beautifully and far more quickly by the experts. Proof that clever budgeting is about smart decisions, not just cutting costs.
