Location: Bedford, Bedfordshire.
A modern new build house doesn’t have to lack charisma, adding plaster details such as coving and ceiling roses is the easiest way to not only add value to your new home but also character and a touch of elegance. Throughout this recent project in Bedford you will see just how easy it is to transform a standard new build with a typical characterless finish into a charming and thoughtful new home.
This customer wanted to transform her main bedroom by reinstating some Victorian charm by pairing a classic cornice design with our ornate Wild Rose Ceiling Rose MPR018. Let's read along to see how this customer achieved her vision.
Project: Enrich a new build with Victorian Plaster Mouldings in Bedford.

Within the Project:
1. What was the biggest challenge in choosing a style, and how did you overcome it?
“I knew I wanted to go for classic Victorian styles as this was the theme I was picking for the house. Thankfully, the website had a whole section for this period style, so it was easy to choose styles for both the coving and ceiling roses! Referring to the photos on the website and your Instagram page really helped me visualise these. I would then measure the sizes and check these against the ceiling with a tape measure before making a final decision.”
If you’re unsure about what size coving or ceiling rose to order, simply think about how you would describe the room: is it small, medium or large? Once you have answered, our website is conveniently categorised by size. You can also order samples via the individual product pages; this is the best way to get a true feel for the product and its transformative impact in real life.
2. How important was craftsmanship and detail in your decision?
“Very important. We did purchase one polystyrene ceiling rose from a high street brand and the finish is nowhere near as good. That confirmed to us that we should use Plaster Ceiling Roses for the rest of the house. The intricacy of the detail is unmatched, and the plaster is what gives the high-quality look”
All of our plaster products are handcrafted using the same traditional materials and techniques that were perfected during the Victorian era. Designed to last a lifetime, our cornices and ceiling roses are built to be permanent architectural features, timeless additions that will elevate your home through many future renovations.

3. What were your first impressions when the products arrived?
“Wrapped very well! I felt confident that there would be no defects during transportation from the packaging. All coving and roses were delivered with no breakages. The coving was delivered by a very friendly member of the team, too, he carried it all upstairs for me!
4. How did the installation go, and what advice would you give others?
“It was really simple, we did the installations ourselves after following a tutorial video. With the right materials and tips, anyone could do this!”
We would always recommend an experienced fitter for installation as we believe it's the most cost-effective and produces the best results. If you are fancying a DIY project, our fitting guides are a great way to start. If you want to install coving yourself, our guides are very helpful, clear and will make the task feel less intimidating.

5. Why did plaster feel like the right material compared to lightweight alternatives?
“We knew with the plaster, the durability would be long-lasting and would give our new build the look of an authentic Victorian property. We wanted to install good quality features to do the look justice.”
Our products are 100% gypsum plaster, ensuring authentic quality, a detailed finish and long-term value.
Overall, we think this customer has done a tremendous job adding personality to the main bedroom, not only by installing our plaster mouldings, but the choice of colour and print makes a statement that feels thoughtful and personal.
We would recommend pairing this MPR018 with our Wild Rose Plaster Coving MPC044 for a curated and layered ambience that feels bohemian.
