Victorian Plaster Ceiling Rose.

Enhancing a Period Home with High-Quality Plaster Ceiling Roses

Location: Bramhall, Stockport.

Our customers, Alex & Lucy are currently thoughtfully renovating their early 1900's Edwardian home in Bramhall. We caught up with them to find out how they found the process. From choosing the right ceiling rose to installation. They wanted to restore intentional details to not only elevate their living space but also add inspiring character with whispers of lived in memories.

Our MPR006 was the perfect choice for Alex and Lucy's home. The intricate details of the petals nod to a bygone era, but it's beauty and simplicity has the flexibility to grow with the property over many decades and future renovations.

Did our ceiling rose help restore missing period features in the property?

"Absolutely. We're pretty sure our living room had a ceiling rose which had been removed, as with many period houses which have had their original features stripped out. Installing a period-correct plaster rose felt like we were finally giving the room its soul back. It helped make a feature of the high ceilings and coving in the room, making the architecture feel intentional again rather than just four plain walls."

Don’t forget about the fifth wall. Adding a ceiling rose to a period property, such as an Edwardian terrace, is the easiest way to not only elevate your home, but also restore heritage character.

What advice would you give to someone choosing a ceiling rose for the first time?

"Scale is everything. We were initially unsure about what size of rose to go for, but period properties with high ceilings can handle more than you think. We cut out a cardboard template of the rose diameter, which helped to give us an idea of the size before we committed. This helped us visualise the size compared to the room and pendant lighting."

Using a cardboard cutout is a great trick to test the size of a ceiling rose by the room proportion before committing. A larger ceiling rose will create a striking focal point, whereas smaller ones add intentional detail. Remember, this is down to your preference; choose the plaster detail that you like for your home. We advise, firstly, decide on how you would describe the size of the space, whether it is small, medium or large? And there’s your answer. Our plaster ceiling roses are conveniently categorised by Small, Medium and Large.

How quickly did the ceiling rose arrive, and how smooth was the ordering experience?

"The process was great. We called Plaster Ceiling Roses to understand if products could be collected directly from them as opposed to being delivered. With us being local, we opted for direct pickup from their warehouse."

How did the ceiling rose influence your other interior design choices?

"The rose dictated the style of lighting we went for. We knew we needed a fixture that wouldn't clash with the intricate casting of the rose. It led us toward a more refined, elegant chandelier that complemented the intricate plaster ceiling rose. We also matched the sunflower design to our up-cycled fireplace surround which has the same floral motif. Together, the ornate rose with the contemporary light fixture really sums up our interior style - the old and the new coming together harmoniously."

Our sunflower collection is a great choice to achieve a consistent period yet versatile finish throughout your home, for larger rooms with high ceilings, consider our LPR006 or LPR026 either of these roses can then be beautifully paired with the MPR006 in smaller rooms or hallways.

Do you feel the mouldings helped elevate the value or perceived quality of your home?

"The ceiling rose has really helped bring grandeur back into the living room of our Edwardian home. It helps draw the eye upwards when you walk into the room. It's something that we'll definitely look to replicate as we renovate the rest of our property."

"We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. The level of detail in the casts is exceptional, the lines are crisp, and the finish is smooth, requiring very little prep work before painting. For anyone looking for  high-quality, authentic plaster ceiling roses, you’d be hard pushed to find anywhere better."
