London plaster coving renovation

Georgian Coving Upgrade for an Edwardian Flat Kitchen & Living Room

Location: Thornton Heath

Edwardian plaster coving

Background:

Mirko’s home is an upper-floor Edwardian flat located in the South London, Borough of Croydon. From the moment he moved in he knew he wanted to restore a sense of period character. With high ceilings and generously sized rooms, the space naturally lent itself to traditional plaster features, and Mirko has gradually added coving throughout his home, choosing styles that range from Georgian to Edwardian, with a few classic profiles mixed in, such as our Swan Neck Plaster Coving

By the time he reached the kitchen and living room, the last two spaces left without coving, he was ready to complete the look once and for all.

A Closer Look at Mirko’s Journey:

What inspired your home renovation project, and what vision did you have in mind for the space?

“Ever since I purchased the flat in Thornton Heath, I wanted to inject some original features to the space. The high ceilings allowed me to really put cornice in every room to highlight the proportions and emphasise the Edwardian style of the house.”

Mirko, based in London, has an eclectic approach to his Edwardian apartment, mixing interiors with a real passion for design. Throughout his home he’s installed a range of plaster coving in different styles (from ornate Edwardian and Georgian profiles to more understated, simple designs). Wanting to complete the look, he decided to finish off the remaining rooms by adding Georgian coving to both his kitchen and living room.

Customers often ask us if it's best to have the same coving in every room; it's a style choice that allows for unique expression in different spaces... while using the same coving can create a cohesive look, mixing styles can add personality!

Can you describe the style and period of your property?

“I live in an upper flat of an early Edwardian terrace house. The rooms have generous proportions and high ceilings. I love traditional old interiors with a fresh and eclectic twist.”

Were there any particular challenges you faced during the renovation process, and how did you overcome them?

“The main challenge was trying to enhance the space with a low budget and among other options I definitely prioritised installing cornices in all the rooms to create a striking look with plenty of traditional features.

We offer fast, next-day delivery at great prices - no long lead times, no hassle, just quick and easy service. Our range of high-quality plaster coving and ceiling roses has something for every budget. Each piece is handmade from gypsum and delivered straight to your door.

What made you choose our coving?

Mirko is extremely passionate about interior design and selected one of our coving from our Georgian range, Plaster Coving Large Regency 140mm Drop LPC027 as he believed it would suit perfectly to his kitchen and living room.

If you love this iconic Georgian design, we also offer it in a medium size (code MPC067). It has a smaller projection, drop, and width, making it a great choice for homes with shorter or standard ceiling heights - perfect for many modern 'new build' houses.

On our website, you can order samples of these styles - as well as any of our other designs. We also offer two ready-made sample packs: a classic plain pack and a swan neck pack, each featuring some of our bestselling styles.

If you are like Mirko and love timeless charm, our Classic 'Plain Sample Pack' is the perfect option for you featuring seven different classical samples.

Who installed your rose / coving?

“For this last project the installation had been performed by EAH Mouldings which I thought had very competitive prices for London.”

Mirko asked us to recommend some independent fitters who worked in his area. We were more than happy to help and sent him the details of two professional installers (we have a database of installers throughout the UK).

If you’re looking for a nearby installer (fibrehand) or need a fitter based in or around London, feel free to get in touch - we can recommend an independent fitter in your area.

Final Thoughts:

Mirko’s project shows how much impact thoughtful, well-chosen coving can have - especially in period homes where architectural details make all the difference. By taking his time and working room by room, he transformed his Edwardian flat into a space with charm.

Mixing Georgian coving into an Edwardian flat is a great way to bring together two different period styles. You get the classic, elegant feel of Georgian design alongside the lighter, simpler vibe of Edwardian spaces. When it’s done right, the result can feel completely natural - adding a touch of timeless charm and architectural interest without looking out of place.
