‘Drawing Room at Project Poppy’
Background:
Charlotte Savidge is founder of Styled Living Interior Design Studio, also based in Harpenden. We have been invited to take a closer look at one of her stunning projects, Project Poppy.
Styled Living’s philosophy is centred on celebrating the unique architecture of every property, honouring its original features whilst ensuring it suits contemporary life. Each project reflects Charlotte’s ability to tell a story through design, layering texture, proportion and detail to create homes that feel deeply personal. Project Poppy was no exception. Charlotte and the team at Styled Living have assisted the homeowners with Interior Design for many spaces throughout the home including the grand hall, drawing room, primary suite, dressing room, en suite, teenagers bedroom and the bootroom.

Before & After:
Charlotte transformed the drawing room into a warm, elegant space designed for entertaining. Once a tired and underwhelming room, it’s now a beautifully balanced mix of period detailing and refined comfort.

Drawing Room before
The addition of ornate plaster mouldings, including our ceiling rose rose, ceiling boarders and timber wall mouldings, reinstated the architectural depth that defines homes of this era. The result is a space that feels both impressive and inviting, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the Edwardian heritage.

What vision did you have in mind for the space?
The Drawing room was designed, a space for my clients to entertain family and friends and to retire to after dinner. My vision was to create a room that felt warm, inviting and elegant, yet with a sense of grandeur befitting the property’s period. I wanted every detail, from the architectural additions to the furnishings, to contribute to a refined and timeless atmosphere.

What made you choose plaster ceiling roses for your property, and how have our products enhanced the overall look of your space?
I used your ceiling rose, cornices, mouldings for the ceiling border and walls and dado rail because their design perfectly complemented the Edwardian character of the house. They provided the architectural depth and authenticity I was looking for, helping to reintroduce the charm and craftsmanship typical of that era. These details elevate the space, giving it a beautifully cohesive and refined finish that enhances the overall sense of quality.
Ordering was simple - everything was in stock and delivery was handled by Plaster Ceilings Roses own van and friendly driver, this was quick and efficient to Hertfordshire.
Can you describe the style and period of the property?
The property is a beautiful double fronted Edwardian home. It was important to me to honour the building’s heritage by reinstating some of the original architectural details that had been lost over time. By reintroducing these classic elements, the room regained its sense of proportion, symmetry and grandeur, key features of Edwardian design.

Were there any particular challenges you faced during the renovation process, and how did you overcome them?
One of the main challenges was balancing period authenticity with modern comfort. We wanted the space to feel true to its Edwardian roots but not overly formal or dated.
Careful selection of materials and finishes, including your plaster and timber mouldings, allowed us to achieve a harmonious blend of old and new. The end result is a room that feels timeless, elegant and very much part of the home’s overall story. The ceiling border is the true highlight of the space, it adds such character and refinement, and my clients couldn’t be happier with the result.
What made you choose this particular product?
Your gypsum plasterwork stood out for its craftsmanship and accuracy of detail. It felt genuinely in-keeping with the quality you’d expect in an Edwardian home. The range of designs available also made it easy to find elements that worked seamlessly together, helping us to achieve a truly authentic yet beautifully detailed finish.
Final Thoughts:
It’s fun to look back at the before photos because its shows just how far we have come with this period home.
My clients are thrilled with the results and it's lovely to know these entertaining spaces will be enjoyed by many this Christmas.
