Worksop: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Worksop and throughout Nottinghamshire at least once a week, so there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to ensure our products arrive in good condition. Plaster cornice is fragile and needs to be handled carefully. Our drivers will check that cornice is handled correctly and stored safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur after delivery.

We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, coving is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths, each piece individually moulded. We keep large quantities of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock so that we can meet even the biggest orders in a few days. Please note if you are ordering coving, it is priced by the meter, please enter the number of meters you require, not the number of pieces.

The Chesterfield canal reached Worksop in 1777 and the railway arrived in 1849 these new transport links transformed Worksop from a market town into an industrial center specialising in malting and timber processing and then coal mining. The population grew rapidly in the Victorian period as the new industries required ever more workers and large amounts of housing was built to accommodate them. All of the Victorian property would have originally have had decorative plaster mouldings, that is to say, plaster cornice, ceiling roses and perhaps corbels and panel mouldings. Fortunately most of this has survived but where it has not, we have worked on many of the renovations.

Always popular for Victorian cornice restorations like this is the swan neck profile, whilst the name may be unfamiliar the cornice itself is instantly recognisable to anybody familiar with older houses. The swan neck design was used extensively throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods, when different sizes of essentially the same design would be used across a wide range of houses from terraces to large detached villas with the only difference being the size of cornice used. We have a range of swan neck cornice sizes, LPC017 is one of the larger sizes and ideal for the high ceilings of detached and larger semi detached Victorian houses. MPC065 is smaller and suitable for the lower ceilings of terraced houses and is often used in more modern houses with lower ceilings to create a Victorian or Edwardian feel to a home. A plain spun ceiling rose such as MPR073 is a good choice to go with any Victorian cornice.

We don't just make plaster coving for older houses. We have a wide range covering all ages and types of property. Designs such as LPC015 a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with ceilings of average height and above, Art Deco designs like MPC028 a classic three step cornice for some 1930s style. Samples of all our designs are available off the individual product pages on the website  these pages also feature hundreds of photographs of our coving and ceiling roses in real life settings, all these pictures have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get a true impression of how a particular cornice would actually look in your own home. It is always surprising just how different the same cornice or ceiling rose can look depending on how the rooms have been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your cornice, the end result will be better and it should also be cheaper. Experienced fitters will be expecting walls that are not straight ceilings that are not level and corners that are not right angles, these are all just part of the job especially when working on older houses, and will cause them no problems whatsoever.

We have good links with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required. If you have any other questions or would like any other information or advice, please give our customer services team a ring, they have years of experience between them and are always happy to talk to customers.
