Stourbridge: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to the Stourbridge and throughout the West Midlands at least once a week, so there is never longer than a few days to wait after placing an order

We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to ensure coving arrives in good condition, our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use. This is particularly important on busy or crowded building sites where space can be in short supply and damage can occur after delivery.

We still make all our plaster ceiling roses and plaster cornice by hand, we use the same techniques, materials and processes that were used in Victorian times. Cornice is moulded in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths each one individually cast as are all our ceiling roses. We keep large stocks of finished coving and ceiling roses, so that we can meet even the largest orders in a couple of days.

Stourbridge was a busy market town before the industrial revolution, the Stourbridge canal was opened in 1779 and the railway arrived in 1852, already a center for glassmaking Stourbridge with its access to coal and good transport connections became an industrial center. From a population of under four thousand in 1800 the population had grown to nearly twenty thousand by the end of the Victorian period.

This rapid industrial growth created a need for more housing to accommodate the increasing numbers of workers, the legacy of which are the many fine Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Stourbridge today. Highly prized for their high ceilings and Victorian architecture we have worked on the renovations of many of these houses. One style that's always popular for Victorian and Edwardian cornice restoration is swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, it is perfect for these houses. The Victorians used different sizes of essentially the same design depending on a room's size and ceiling height. LPC017 is one of our larger swan neck cornices and ideal for Victorian ceilings that are well above today's average ceiling heights, MPC065 is a smaller size more suitable for average height ceilings. It is often used in the upstairs rooms of older houses or for creating a Victorian feel to a more modern house. A good choice of ceiling rose with any swan neck cornice is a plain spun rose such as LPR074, if you would like more detail LPR060 is a fine ceiling rose of typical Victorian design featuring acanthus leaves.

We don't just make coving for older houses we have a wide range covering all ages and styles of property, from art deco designs such as MPC028, to classic plain cornice such as LPC015 a design not tied to any particular style or period, which will add elegance to any room. Samples of all our coving are available from the individual product pages, these pages also feature many photographs of our coving and ceiling roses in real life settings, most of these pictures have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an impression of how a specific design would look in your own home. It is always surprising how different the same design can look depending on the style in which the rooms have been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would always suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result look better it should also be cheaper. They will not have problems with walls that are not straight or ceilings that are not level, not to mention coving with a pattern on it or corners that are not right angles. These are all things that are a normal expected part of the job, especially when working on older houses, where often very few things are straight or level.

We have good relations with local tradesmen and are able to put you in touch, if you have any other questions or would like any other information or advice please give our customer services team a call, they have years of experience between them and will be happy to talk to you.
