Lancaster: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses

We deliver plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to the Lancaster area at least once a week, so there is never very long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers for deliveries to make sure our coving arrives in good condition. Our drivers will check the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy or crowded building sites where damage can occur.

We still make all our plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses by hand, each length of coving is individually moulded in 2.4 meter (8 foot) lengths, all our ceiling roses are also individually cast using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times, they are a genuinely handmade product. We keep large quantities of finished coving and ceiling roses in stock allowing us to meet even the largest orders in a matter of days.

Lancaster has grown from a roman fort to a thriving university city and was a major port trading with the North American colonies and the West Indies, a period from which many fine Georgian buildings remain. Its long history and prosperity has given Lancaster today a mixture of fine period buildings and quality modern houses.

Decorative plaster cornice has been in fashion since Georgian times, its was becoming widespread in the Victorian period, when it started to be produced off site, made in the same way as we do today. One of the more popular Victorian designs was swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall.  Swan neck cornice was used well into Edwardian times, its distinctive profile will be recognisable to anyone familiar with older houses. The average Victorian ceiling was higher than those of today LPC017 is a large swan neck cornice ideal for those higher ceilings and larger rooms, MPC065 is a smaller swan neck often used in bedrooms where the ceilings are lower or in smaller period properties. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will go well with any Victorian cornice or for something more ornate LPR060 is a stylish Victorian design of acanthus leaves. We also have matching timber mouldings, SB009 and ARC002 are a large Victorian skirting board and architrave respectively.

We don't just make plaster cornice for older houses, we make a complete range covering all ages and styles of property. Designs such as LPC015, a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above ceiling heights, popular for properties built from the 1920s onwards, it is often chosen for new builds. If you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 is equally stylish with the proportions for lower ceilings.

Samples of all our coving are available on the individual product pages, where you will also find hundreds of pictures of our cornice in real life situations. All these pictures have been sent in by our customers and are the best way to get an impression of how a particular design would actually look in your own home. It is surprising just how different the same design can look depending on the style in which the room has been decorated and furnished, samples only take a couple of days to arrive.

We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the end result be better it should also be cheaper, they wont have problems with walls that are not straight, corners that are not right angles, ceilings that are not level or coving with a pattern on it, all these things that are just part of the job especially on older houses. We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if required.

If you have any questions or would like any other help or advice, please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
