Farnham: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster cornice and plaster ceiling roses to Farnham and throughout Surrey at least twice a week so there is never long to wait after placing an order. We use our own vans and drivers to make deliveries so we can be sure our coving arrives in good condition, our drivers will check that the coving is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is especially important on busy building sites where space can be short and damage can occur.
We still make all our plaster ceiling roses and cornice entirely by hand, using the same materials and techniques that were used in Victorian times, each length of cornice is individually made in an 8 foot (2.4M) pieces, our ceiling roses too are individually moulded by hand. We keep large stocks of finished ceiling roses and plaster cornice, so that we are able to meet even the largest orders in a matter of days not weeks.
Farnham has a long history dating back to Roman times and was renowned for hundreds of years for growing the finest hops in the country. It was wealth from these hops that paid for the building of the fine Georgian townhouses along Castle Street and West Street.
The Aldershot army camp was established in the 1850s and brought thousands of army personnel and their families to the area, which led to a boom in the building of Victorian terraced houses. Finer detached Villas were built in areas such as Firgrove Hill and South Farnham for army officers and London Businessmen who could now commute after the railway arrived in 1848.
Today, Farnham has an enviable selection of period and modern properties and we have supplied decorative plasterwork to many of them. Always popular for the Victorian and Edwardian houses is swan neck cornice, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall. The swan neck profile is a classic Victorian cornice that was used well into the Edwardian period, larger sizes such as LPC073 are ideal for the high ceilings of Victorian detached and larger semi detached houses, while LPC030 and MPC065 are for above average and averaged height ceilings respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 was often chosen by the Victorians to go with a swan neck cornice, or for something more ornate, LPR060 is a typical Victorian ceiling rose design featuring acanthus leaves. Should you also need to replace timber mouldings, SB009 and ARC002 are a Victorian timber skirting board and architrave of a size and quality of timber, that you rarely see these days.
We don't just make plaster cornice and ceiling roses for older properties we have a full range covering all ages and types of property. Profiles such as LPC015, a stylish cornice that looks good anywhere with average and above average ceiling heights, is very popular for more modern houses. If you do not have the ceiling height MPC046 is equally stylish but with smaller proportions suitable for lower ceilings.
You can order samples of all our coving off the individual product pages, also on these pages are hundreds of photographs of our cornice and ceiling roses in real life settings, these are all pictures sent in by our customers and they are the best way to get an idea of how a particular design would actually look in your own home, it is always surprising how different the same cornice can look in different rooms depending on the style in which they have been decorated and furnished. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced fitters to install your cornice, they are used to working with real plaster and don't have any problems with walls that are not straight or ceilings that are not level, as they very often are not, this means they can work faster and to a higher standard.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact. If you have any other questions or would like any further information or advice, please give our customer services team a call, they will be happy to talk to you.
