Falmouth: Plaster Coving, Cornice and Ceiling Roses
We deliver plaster coving and plaster ceiling roses to the Falmouth and surrounding area, usually once a week, so there is never long after placing an order to wait for delivery. We use our own vans and drivers, to make deliveries, to ensure our coving arrives in good condition. Our drivers will also check cornice is handled carefully and stacked safely ready for use, this is important on busy or crowded building sites where space can be short and damage can occur.
We still make all our plaster cornice and ceiling roses by hand, still using the same materials and processes that were used in Victorian times. Plaster coving is made in 8 foot (2.4M) lengths, each one individually moulded, we also make all our ceiling roses individually by hand. We keep large stocks of finished cornice and ceiling roses, so that we can meet even the largest orders, in a matter of days not weeks.
Falmouth was a very important port in the British Empire, it was from where the “Packet Service” ran, a fleet of fast ships that carried mail, diplomatic papers and news around the empire, bringing wealth into the town. In 1863 the railway arrived and the town now also became a resort with grand hotels such as ‘The Falmouth Hotel’ and new houses being built.
Today, Falmouth has a mix of fine period and modern housing built around its wonderful views of the sea. All the Victorian and Edwardian houses would have originally had decorative plasterwork, that is, plaster cornice, plaster ceiling roses and perhaps corbels and panel mouldings as well. Fortunately, most of this original plasterwork has survived, though where it has not we have worked on a number of renovations. Always popular for these Victorian cornice restorations has been, Swan neck coving, so called because it extends further across the ceiling than it does down the wall, although people may be unfamiliar with the name, they soon recognise the cornice when they see it, with its unmistakably Victorian profile and style. LPC017 is one of our larger swan neck cornices and suitable for the high ceilings of larger Victorian detached and semi detached houses. If your ceilings are lower LPC030 and MPC065 have the right proportions for above average and average ceilings respectively. A plain spun ceiling rose such as LPR074 will look good with any Victorian cornice or if you would prefer something more ornate, LPR060 is a detailed Victorian ceiling rose featuring an acanthus leaf design.
We don't just make plaster coving and ceiling rose for older properties we produce a complete range covering all ages, sizes and types of property. Designs such as LPC015 which looks good anywhere with a ceiling of average height and above, or MPC028 a classic stepped Art Deco design. We think there is something for everyone, if you need any help or suggestions please call our customer services number.
Samples of all our coving are available off the individual product pages, these pages also feature hundreds of pictures of our coving in real life situations. All these photographs have been sent in by our customers and they are the best way to form an impression of how a particular ceiling roses or cornice would actually look in your own home. The same cornice design can look completely different depending on how the room it is in has been furnished and decorated. Samples only take a couple of days to arrive.
We would suggest you use experienced cornice fitters to install your coving, not only will the finished result be better it should also be cheaper. They will not have difficulties caused by ceilings not being level, walls not straight, or mitres not being ninety degrees, all these things are expected and normal parts of the job especially when fitting cornice in Victorian houses. It is possible to fit it yourself, especially the smaller cornices, the thing to do is to take it slowly and you will need two people. We have some videos on the website which give you some tips and advice.
We have good contacts with local tradesmen and can put you in contact if needed, should you have any other questions or require any further information or advice, please give our customer services team a call they will be happy to talk to you.
