Plaster Coving Small Egg and Dart 60mm SPC022
Drop: 60mmProjection: 60mm
The egg and dart design is a pattern that dates back thousands of years. Originally a Greek design, it was used extensively in Roman buildings. Classical designs and motifs, such as the egg and dart, became the height of fashion in the Georgian period. The egg and dart design continued to be popular throughout the Victorian era, where it was used, not only on plaster mouldings but also furniture.
This is the smallest egg and dart cornice we produce, with a drop of 60 mm, just over two inches. It is generally used where there's not enough space available for a larger cornice, perhaps because ceilings have been lowered, and there is now not enough room between the new ceiling height and the window architraves for a more substantial cornice.
Two of our larger egg and dart cornices are MPC045, a traditional egg and dart, and MPC019, which features an egg and dart moulding above a dentil moulding.
A plain spun ceiling rose such as MPR072 is a popular choice to complement an egg and dart cornice and complete a room.
If you are planning to install this cornice yourself, we have a range of installation tools and materials, the website also has a number of useful informational videos.
We make all our plaster coving by hand. Each piece is individually moulded using the same techniques and materials that were used in Victorian times.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I ORDER?
If you measure your plaster coving needs and order an exact amount, one wall could end up being finished in small off-cuts. To avoid this, we recommend you order 15% extra to ensure longer lengths are used wherever possible, as this will create a better finish. This coving comes in 2.4m lengths.
