Coving & Cornice
The fashion for installing plaster coving and plaster cornice in homes took off over 200 years ago and remains popular to this day. The lasting appeal of plaster cornice is that it adds style to a room, making it look smart and well finished. Walls and ceilings are rarely perfectly straight and as they both move slightly over time, unsightly cracks can appear. By covering the join between these two with well fitted cornice these issues disappear and the overall effect created is one of elegance, which is why you'll find cornice throughout the rooms of many of the worlds top hotels.
In Victorian times a revolution in plaster moulding gradually brought cornice to the masses. Borrowing styles from antiquity elaborate decorative designs were fitted in the principal rooms to impress visitors while plainer mouldings were employed elsewhere.
