How to Balance a Mitre - VIDEO

A quick coving tutorial that explains how to continue the pattern on decorated coving around a corner, which is known as balancing the mitre.

This video shows how to balance an external mitre on a patterned length of plaster cornice
To keep the pattern flowing through the mitre, find a point of reference on the coving that's easy to remember (e.g. the center of a rose)
From that point, measure back to the mitre
On the next piece of coving, find another easy-to-remember point of reference
Then measure the same distance as above, back from the second point of reference - that will be the start of the cut
The two pieces of cut coving, when joined together, will have pattern continuity
