Picture rails were an integral part of Victorian interior design along with the dado rail they were used to divide the walls up into three sections 'dado' 'filling' and 'frieze' by the early 1900's the dodo rail had gone out of fashion and the picture rail remained although its height had been lowered. 

This period picture rail measures 55mm x 26mm .
